Event 4 of Season 2 - KODEN Presents: Special guests VSK [CRS/Soma/EarToGround/Rebirth] and Stephanie Sykes [Fullpanda/Jaded/KHIDI] with support from KODEN residents.
Where - The Courtyard (Formerly of the Rainbow Venues)
160 High Street, Digbeth, B12 0LD
When - 11/05/2018, 22:00H - 06:00H
Situated in Digbeth, the thriving heart of the Birmingham rave scene and emerging from the shadows after a fresh refurbishment. The former Rainbow Pub and Cellar space captured our imagination since our first visit in its new guise. An industrial pared-back brick and concrete interior with minimal lighting to help set the scene and a sonically unmistakable Funktion One sound system, this is the perfect space for a night of esoteric electronic music.
A handpicked selection of artists who demonstrate a profound understanding of music, a passion to perform and the ability to inspire.
Francesco Visconti -- better known as VSK, the Italian born Berlin based DJ, prolific remixer and very talented producer. His sound ranges from flat out industrially-influenced techno to a very different dusky, yet just as effective more ambient soundscape. Both in keeping with VSK’s trademark cutting sound design and unmistakable fierce rhythms.
As one half of Symmetrical Behaviour alongside Conrad Von Orton, the same two minds also came together in 2010 along with Vilix to create ‘Consumer Recreation Service’, a label that gained instant support from the international techno community and which over its existence has released influential records.
Combine working as an experienced audio engineer and sound designer with an introduction to djing at the age of sixteen, VSK can easily be considered a master of his craft. Proved by a back catalog featuring on revered labels such as Perc Trax, 47, Planet Rhythm, Ear To Ground and most recently Soma, with the EP ‘Deep Learning’. It really is our pleasure to present VSK, a real inspiration and absolute KODEN favourite.
Stephanie Sykes -- A German born DJ/Producer and a staple across a trio of gatherings considered to be the cream of the techno crop. Representing the new guard of techno with resident duties held at London’s techno temple Corsica Studio’s, the home of after-hours party Jaded, to Tbilisi’s prolific KHIDI club and not forgetting Birmingham's relentless Atomic Jam nights at the notorious Q Club.
An evidently hard worker balancing production time with three renowned residencies on opposite sides of the world. Sykes has well and truly earned her place amongst the loyal London techno scene and Georgia's dedicated underground community, playing alongside techno heroes like Phase Fatale, Boston 168, Luigi Tozzi and fellow KHIDI resident Regal.
DJ set’s are delivered in the most urgent and unapologetic way, but Stephanie's own production is offset with a slightly different pace and vibe. By Remixing Rebekah’s ‘Breathe’ with dub-heavy undertones and releasing her own deviant tracks like ‘Hypo’ and ‘Perplex’ on Fullpanda Records, Sykes tracks are a little glimpse into the variety we enjoy at KODEN and a year on from her last performance, we’re very excited to have this Birmingham favourite back for round two. Not for the faint hearted!
Jay Sirett -- KODEN visionary and resident, is becoming a name you associate with the Birmingham Techno scene. The Brummie born producer’s hard work is paying off and it shows, playing his characteristically energetic take on Techno for the likes of Elements and after-party institution Jaded. Following on from his intense DJ sets he’s just as committed in the studio and has most recently featured on Fabrik Musik ‘Infinity Stars’ various artists release with track 'Metrika’.
Vasili Carlson -- Originally from Greece and the Co-founder of KODEN, has been mesmerising listeners with his signature spatial sounds since our formation. His free but determined view of musical expression and energy not only relate to the trajectory of a great night but also takes on a higher meaning. As an experienced producer he has signed to a slew of labels including - Intrusion, City Wall Records and Slate Records. The Techno alchemist hosts a regular podcast and has performed at well-respected underground events Elements, Tronika and Corner Sessions.
Sllav -- Bulgarian-born Sllav has been quick to develop and cement his own movements in the Birmingham techno scene with a keen attitude and a taste for groovy hard hitting music mirrored within his sets. Meticulously gaining a practical understanding of the genre from Birmingham and London based nights along with fierce creativity, he has found his feet both performing and producing. The KODEN resident has a bright future!
