In April 2006 the Heritage Lottery fund awarded the Ipswich Hospital Band Â£772,000 to enable the refurbishment of St Peterâ€™s Church Ipswich â€“ one of the redundant Mariners Churches adjoining an area which is currently undergoing extensive redevelopment â€“ and convert it to a centre for Music and the Arts.

Further financial assistance was given by Ipswich Borough Council, and the Ipswich Historic Churches Trust, the balance of the total cost of refurbishment came from the bandâ€™s own fundraising.

On Saturday 24th May 2008 The Ipswich Hospital Band held the inaugural concert at the venue, this was compÃ©red by Roger Fern, former mayor of Ipswich.

There is live music in St Peterâ€™s every Wednesday lunchtime, which is free for visitors to listen to while exploring the centre, as well as the many concerts and events which happen throughout the year, performed by local, national and international groups.
