Returning for its 3rd edition after a stunning debut in 2015 and its sister race in Spring this Pool triathlon takes place at Edge Hill University in Ormskirk - the University of the Year.
The event is open to all levels of triathlete from first time competitors to seasoned age groupers and will be centred around the incredible facilities at the new £25 million sports complex at Edge Hill Sport.
The 400m swim will take place in the new 25m pool which has a glass fronted area at the very front of the sports complex overlooking the running track.
After the swim triathletes will leave the pool and run into the transition area to pick up their bikes and head out onto the 18.5k route taking a left out of the front of the University onto St Helens Rd and then a quick left into Scarth Hill Lane before a right onto Ruff Lane and following Whiteleys Lane to the junction with Wigan Road where participants will turn left and follow Wigan Rd into Westhead and turn left into School Lane to start the gentle climb back up towards campus. Riders will then turn right into Vicarage Lane and follow this leafy route back to Ruff Lane and take a left to start the 2nd lap and then repeat for a 3rd lap on the same route - after the 3rd lap athletes will turn right when reaching Ruff Lane and return to the transition area on campus via the rear entrance to the University.
Leaving transition the 5k run route will take in the scenery of the lake and beach area in the Eastern Campus before heading over the 2nd lake on the Western Campus then back through the Rose Garden and passed the front of the University returning passed the first lake and out onto the running trail for the final 2k with a rousing finish on the new running track, where our professional Race Announcer will 'shout you home'!
Competitors will be started in waves dependant on estimated swim time - which will be required to be submitted on entry.
Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd Male and Female overall.
Age group prizes will be awarded to the 1st Male and Female for each category.
All entrants will receive a custom designed technical T shirt - finishers will also receive a bespoke West Lancashire Summer Triathlon 2016 medal and goody bag.
