The Three Tuns is an award winning city-centre pub, specialising in local and national real ales and craft beer from around the world. But it’s not just about the drink! They also offer a street food inspired menu, brought to you by My Mate’s Barbecue. Formerly local street food vendors, they now operate out of the Tuns’ kitchen, but retain the casual, informal approach to dining. The kind you can get really stuck into and get your hands messy!
Situated just a few minutes walk away from the centre of town and College Green, this historic pub (which can be dated back to as early as the early 1900s!) certainly stands out from the surrounding new builds. Inside the pub there are many traditional features, but perhaps the most popular is the terrace; smoking friendly, heated and completely protected from rain.
Specialising in ale with 7 traditional hand- pull taps and four keg ale lines, there is plenty to choose from. The choices always vary; once one beer goes, another will take its place. Although the focus is on local and micro-breweries, they also stock an extensive selection of bottled beers, bag in box ciders, wines and spirits. They even offer a discount for students and CAMRA members.
The usual menu includes such offerings as low and slow pulled pork, 8oz burgers, halloumi wraps and much more, so there is sure to be something to tickle your fancy. Don’t fancy something big to eat? They also serve a range of bar snacks and smaller dishes. If you’re in a hurry, the chefs also offer quick bites to eat during lunch times, such as sandwiches and baguettes. They’ll even deliver directly to your office! So whether you want something on the go, or a little more relaxed, they’ve got you covered.
There are plenty of events; from live Irish music sessions every Monday, you can also find them hosting magic shows, outstanding seasonal beer festivals and monthly art exhibitions.
Recently under new ownership, Maggie and Jenna from Jam Jar Bars LTD intend to maintain the atmosphere and the focus on really decent beer, but give it a new lease of life.
