Glasgow University Concert Hall

A short distance from the Music Department, in the University's main Gilbert Scott building, is the University Concert Hall. The Department has preferential access to the hall and uses it extensively for recitals, performance practice and teaching.

A student playing one of the Model D SteinwaysThe Concert Hall houses two Steinway Model D grand pianos (one newly acquired in May 2001), three chamber organs (including an 18th-century Snetzler), 2 harpsichords (one an 18th-century Faulkner), an extensive range of percussion and other instruments for the performance of orchestral and contemporary music. In addition to the instruments housed in the Concert Hall the Department also owns a set of viols, baroque strings, recorders, crumhorns and other early instruments.

The Concert Hall is also home to the Department's Diffusion System for the public performance of electroacoustic music.

A student playing percussionA comprehensive Hi-Fi system is installed primarily for when the hall is in use as a teaching venue.

The hall is connected to the nearby Studios by dedicated tie-lines to facilitate the recording of concerts and recitals.
