XOYO London is under new ownership and is undergoing a refurbishment.
In a video shared on Instagram, we’re told the Shoreditch club will be fully refurbished with new sound, lighting, production, walls, stages, and floors.
The man in the video, Kirk Allen, the owner of The Warehouse in Leeds, Rise Festival in France, and now the new owner of XOYO London, says, "We need to bring it back to life. It's been neglected. It used to be an icon; it used to be an institution. Everyone used to play here, but over the past few years, it's been left to rot.”
Another post shows people spray painting the venue’s doors with “back to the underground”, captioned with: "Back to the underground! XOYO returns, fresh direction, improved sound system, overhauled production, new owners - XOYO forever.”
XOYO London has been acquired by the newly formed Propaganda Independent Venues (PIV), along with Camden Assembly. The company was created by the team behind the indie club night Propaganda, which has held events across the UK and further afield.
PIV already owns venues including XOYO Birmingham, Tramshed Cardiff, and The Globe Cardiff.
PIV is run by Propaganda founder Dan Ickowitz-Seidler and Richard Buck, founder and former chief executive of global entertainment company TEG.
In a press release seen by Time Out, PIV said they wanted to help XOYO “thrive under independent ownership and become a cultural hub for the area, offering opportunities and support to local artists and businesses”. PIV also announced that all venue ticket sales will now include an optional customer donation to the Music Venue Trust, which supports grassroots music venues.
