Techno duo Slam have been standard bearers for electronic music since the late eighties, acid house heroes refashioned as modern dancefloor bosses.

Their record label Soma has been equally as well regarded, prominent for over twenty years and now inching towards the unfathomable milestone of 400 releases.

The duo head to Liverpool on Sunday 25th May to headline 303's forays in the Shipping Forecast, bringing their blistering pedigree to the venues gloriously intimate Hold. Ahead of the show we caught up with one half of the duo Stuart MacMillan.

You're heading to Liverpool at the end of the month. Having played for the likes of Bugged Out, Voodoo, Chibuku and Cream in the past, how much are you looking forward to returning to the city?

Really looking forward to it. It's been a while since we've been.

Do you see any similarities with it and your hometown of Glasgow? and whilst we're on the topic, how healthy is the scene up there at present?

The two cities are always compared in some way, although every city is unique Glasgow does have an affinity with Liverpool. They are two working class cities with an industrial past, and the energy of the people are quite similar. And there is always a great vibe from the crowe in both cities.

What are your Ibiza and festival plans this summer?

We are playing At Space on the 17 June (my birthday) Which will be amazing I'm sure - it always is.

Soma is nearly 22 years old - congrats! It's now longer in the tooth than many of the people on the dancefloors at your shows. How on earth have you stayed so relavent in such a volatile climate?

It's important to look over the brow of the hill. The passion we have for techno in our twenties is the same as we have now. in fact id say we are are even more passionate about techno now. It may seem we are on a mission with Soma but we are just doing what we always do, put out the best music we can find.

We have some fantastic people on board Woo York, Oswald, Charles Fenckler to name a few. The sound of Soma kind of mirrors what you would hear Slam play in a club.

What's next for the label?

We have a new EP from Woo York with an amazing Ø [Phase] mix, as well as new EPS from Oswald and Charles Fenkler. On top of that there's the a Slam Rotary / Catacoustics ep which will turn out to be our 400 release.

And our new album later in the year which is exiting - it's the first album from us in 7 years.
