Great review for our last gig by Alexander Barnes, CEO at Fashion Plus magazine.

It was my pleasure to join the amazing Groove Initiative behind the scenes last week at the Eight Members' Club as a photographer for Bass Quarterly Magazine. As I was lead to the backstage area prior to the gig, with no doubt the quality of musicians I was about to meet, it hit me: the Groove Initiative have collectively performed with some of the world's most talented musicians: Jamiroquoi, Basement Jaxx, Eric Clapton to name a few.

The performance was simply outstanding. Vula Malinga, Brendan Reilly & Michelle John's involvement with the audience, and the ease with which they got up to dance was admirable. Being related to the head of the British Academy of New Music, I've been to my fair share of gigs and concerts but never before have I see an audience so captivated from just the opening note of the first song.

Powerful, captivating and perfectly performed, the Groove Initiative were far from your standard Friday evening entertainment at the Club - the quality and care that went in to the performance mirrored the perfectly close relationship visible between the vocalists and remainder of the band. Their easy-going, funky approach to each set was a simple reminder of the group's title, and with no push to sell a CD or raise money for the bar, the focus was on the quality of the music.. This lead to a fantastic evening that was visibly enjoyed by all. I'll definitely be heading back to Blind Bee on 27th June for their next performance. Who's joining?
