We've been big fans of Selective Hearing's work since they burst onto the Manchester scene back in 2010. In their busy four years of party building, they've continued to welcome some of underground dance music's most revered payers to various locations around Manchester and Leeds, repeatedly cementing their status as discerning rave aficionados.
Friday September 20th sees them return to where it all began - Joshua Brooks, armed with a remarkable line up of techno and bass heavyweights, all primed to go back to back for the first time ever.
UK techno don Pariah leads the charge. Renowned for his blistering productions and killer output as part of Karenn with Blawan, Pariah continues to explore a tough, brutal techno sound that has helped usher in a new era for the scene.
His and Blawan's She Works label too, despite its mere five releases, is already regarded as one of UK techno's most uncompromising imprints, failing to put a foot wrong as it explores the darker recesses of techno's glorious netherworld. Check out his collaboration with Midland (above) to see what all the fuss is about.
R&S Records favourite and younger brother of Truss - Tessela joins him on the decks. Anyone who has dipped their toe into his overtly singular sound will know what lies in store for his Selective Hearing appearance - a breathtaking journey through fractures beats, thunderous rave and off kilter techno.
His latest EP Rough 2, released just a few weeks back boasts a wealth of psychotic synths, mangled drum patterns and rumbling bass lines as he continues to operate in the best form of his life. Hear some of that in 'Butchwax' above.
Rounding off the banging line up is one of the Livity Sound triumvirate Kowton. His run of releases alongside Peverelist and Asusu back in 2012 and 2013 saw him flex a vigorously fresh take on UK bass music, marrying supreme low end with a distorted grime tropes, complete with splashes of jungle, dubstep house and techno, all often present in the same track. Expect more of the same from his DJ set.
With all three going back to back for the very first time together, Selective Hearing's latest outing is shaping up to be one of their most anticipated shows to date. Grab your Selective Hearing tickets here.
