Renaissance continues 20th anniversary celebrations in Liverpool

Renaissance are known for having altered the face of clubbing in the early 90s, when they upped the stakes venue-wise with their series of parties in decadent Stately Homes as opposed to the warehouses and reclaimed spaces with which the genre had become synonymous. So, fittingly for Renaissance, the event on the 15th September will be held in one of Liverpool's architectural gems; the majestic St George's Hall.

Known for launching the careers of many a world class DJ including Sasha and John Digweed, Renaissance is a truly pioneering club brand. As well as changing the visual aesthetic of clubbing, Renaissance also pushed an exciting new genre, which combined the epic and ethereal trance and techno coming from mainland Europe with the rolling house grooves from over the Atlantic: Progressive House.

The 20 year celebrations kicked off earlier this year in Birmingham and Leeds, with Sasha at the helm. Now, thanks to the work of Liverpool promoters Freeze, the next part of the celebration will be held at the magnificent St George's Hall in September.

Taking place on Saturday 15th September, the event - which is being endorsed by Funktion 1 - will see the Grade I listed building reverberate to the sounds of some of Renaissance's biggest names; Hernan Cattaneo (pictured), Henry Saiz, Danny Howells and Jemmy, plus a very special guest DJ still to be announced.

To add an eclectic edge to proceedings, Ghosting Season - an exciting new band signed to Sasha's label Last Night on Earth - will perform live.

Completing the colossal line-up is home-grown star Jemmy, whose EP Quarry Bank Rainbow will be released on the Renaissance label this summer.

One of the world's finest neo-classical buildings, St George's Hall was originally built as a venue for music festivals in the 1850s. A majestic setting for Renaissance's 20 year celebrations, the hall, which Charles Dickens is said to have dubbed "the most perfect hall in the world", is part of Liverpool's World Heritage site.

Following the St George's Hall event, an exclusive after-party is being held in a secret venue, for which just 500 tickets are available. Continuing Freeze's emotional commitment to Breast Cancer awareness, a percentage of all ticket sales will be donated to the cause.
