Newcastle collective and event brand Shy Bairns is now accepting applications for its free youth-led electronic music program.

Funded by Youth Music, the course, Get Nowt, is aimed at young people aged 18 - 24 in the North East.

The course offers sessions on DJing, marketing, industry, and promotion in the music industry, delivered by professionals from the North East. It will be taught in person at Loft Studios between 29th September and 18th November 2025.

The four chosen participants will receive six three-hour sessions with a tutor in a professional recording studio, a free Ableton or Logic license, four Cradle plugins, a press pack (with press shots, a bio, and more), a SanDisk USB, and a financial contribution to something their studio is missing.

Other benefits include travel costs covered, guidance and mentorship around producing a track (which will be pressed on vinyl), and ongoing access to industry support and advice from the Shy Bairns team.

In their post announcing that applications are open, Shy Bairns said, "We are committed to addressing inequality in the music industry. Our mission is to help develop the North East's electronic music scene by supporting and educating local talent to nurture a unique regional sound.

“Whether you've released four studio albums or made three demos, if this course feels right for you, please apply."

Applications are open from 1st August to 1st September.
