Mulatu Astatke is one of the greatest masters and propagators of African music. Born in Ethiopia, this multi-talented composer, vibraphone master and multi-instrumentalist (skilled at playing the percussion instruments, keyboard instruments and string instruments) gained cult status over time. His albums, especially the ones he recorded with Heliocentrics are absolute classics of world music. In the 1970s, the musician showed the world a new original music style known as Ethio jazz, thanks to which his country began to be seen as a place of authentic source music. Aside from playing concerts and studio recordings, he is also active in music theory and dealt with reconstructing traditional instruments at Harvard University.

Today, his work inspires many artists and the songs of Mulatu Astatke are sampled by such famous hip hop stars as Nas, Damian Marley, Kanye West, Cut Chemist or K?naan. The artist also conquered the hearts of cinema lovers, recording seven tracks for Jim Jarmusch?s film ?Broken Flowers?.

Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain is a real gem from the British Isles whose style and deliver perfectly reflects the idea of ?different sounds?. This charming, humorous and daring band dates back to 1980s.

For over 30 years of activity, they contributed to changing the image of the ukulele. Their concerts are unique experiences; they alternate between touching and funny and at the same time they are masterfully performed. They performed thousands of excellent concerts in the most important concert halls around the world, such as the Royal Albert Hall in London, Opera House in Sydney and Carnegie Hall in New York, becoming a British cultural organisation and a national treasure. Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain consists of excellent, frequently classically trained musicians whose rich experience ranges from working with traditional ensembles, Glastonbury Festival and joint projects with such masters as Brian Eno or Michael Nyman. It translates directly into the band?s quality and inventiveness.

Their versions of hit songs by, among others, Kate Bush, Talking Heads, Sex Pistols or Rolling Stones are both art and entertainment of the highest level.

East of Culture is a cultural project integrating artists from cities in eastern Poland (Bialystok, Lublin and Rzeszow) and artists from the Eastern Partnership countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldavia and Ukraine). It is carried out by the National Centre of Culture and the three Polish cities. The project aims to present and help discover the unique aspects of each culture as well as to facilitate the sharing of artistic experiences. Over time, the festival became a bridge connecting our eastern partners with broader European culture. 2017 marks the fifth anniversary of East of Culture. The project was made possible by the involvement of creative groups and local governments of Eastern Poland, as well as the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.
