Just a few months back, social media was alive with talk of Morrissey's second book List of the Lost, but not in the light the ex-Smiths front man would have necessarily wanted.

Largely panned by critics, it was its now infamous sex scene that drew most attention, with terms like 'barrel-rolled' breasts and the gentleman's 'balbous salutation' making it sound like an alien being had attempted to describe human copulation with only a thesaurus and the entire 'Carry On...' back catalogue as reference points.

To compound Morrissey's literary woes, that scene has now been nominated for a 'Bad Sex in Fiction Award' - an annual ceremony that sees itself now in its 23rd year. The awards are designed to “draw attention to poorly written, perfunctory or redundant passages of sexual description in modern fiction, and to discourage them”. Well, at least the book's been nominated for something.
