Lady of the House set to host exhibition honouring women in dance music

The cultural exhibition will precede the Lady of the House UK tour, featuring performances from a number of electronic music titans and exciting new talents on all women lineups across a number of cities this spring

Date published: 7th Jan 2022

Lady of the House, the female-led organisation behind the book of the same name, have recently announced a pioneering cultural exhibition celebrating women in electronic music - commencing on International Women’s Day, on Tuesday 8th March, and concluding on Saturday 12th March - at the worlds first hybrid music venue - Bristol's Lost Horizon.

The book, crowdfunded and sponsored by a number of key industry players, venues and record labels the likes of Defected Records, TANK, Halo and Focusrite, shines a spotlight on the trailblazing women of the dance scene, providing an invaluable record of the central role played by women within the evolution of dance music over the years.

Contributions to the book, which include never seen before pictures and interviews from over a hundred and fifty female artists, come from esteemed names the likes of Nina Kraviz, Charlotte de Witte, Candi Staton, Nicole Moudaber, Maya Jane Coles, Róisín Murphy, Rozalla, Jaguar, Rowetta, Sam Divine, Julie McKnight, DJ Paulette and many more.

The event, which is set to precede the Lady of the House UK tour this coming March, will boast a programme full of industry workshops and empowering panels from pivotal, key figurehead women working within the music sector, as well as production/DJ masterclasses, a handful of live performances and book reading sessions from the authors of Lady of the House - Laila McKenzie and Ian 'Snowy' Snowball.

Kicking off with an under 18’s day, the opening day of the exhibition will aim to educate students in a variety of topics such as music production, DJing and artist management.

An art installation has also been planned to showcase the work of designer Jenny Elliot, as well as others, who collaborated with the female-run business to produce the ‘Women In Club Culture’ music map, alongside a series of other visual content. The limited edition artwork will be available to purchase exclusively at the Lady Of The House exhibition.
