Kneecap cancel US Tour after UK court date moved forward

Despite the US cancellation, the Canadian dates will still go ahead as planned, with the trio also revealing "something very special for U.S. fans next week."

Kneecap have pulled their upcoming US tour after court dates for member Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh, aka Mo Chara, clashed with the scheduled shows. The Irish rap trio had been due to play 15 dates across October, but ongoing legal proceedings mean the run will no longer go ahead.

The band promised that it will “be sharing something very special for U.S. fans next week, so we can still link with you all in October. It’s top secret for now, but all will be revealed next week.” Canadian dates remain unaffected.

The decision follows legal proceedings involving Ó hAnnaidh, who is facing charges connected to a Kneecap show at London’s O2 Academy Kentish Town in November 2024. Prosecutors allege that during the performance he displayed a Hezbollah flag and used associated slogans. He was formally charged in May, and is currently on unconditional bail ahead of his next hearing on September 26th.

In their statement posted to social media on Sunday (August 25th), the group said: "Due to the proximity of our next court hearing in London to the first date of the tour, as the British government continues [its] witch-hunt, we will have to cancel all 15 tour dates in October."

They continued: "With every show fully sold out, to tens of thousands of fans, this is news we are sad to deliver. But once we win our court case, which we will, we promise to embark on an even bigger tour to all you great heads."

They finished with: "And remember... The revolution will be no re-run, brothers. The revolution will be live. Free Palestine!"

The cancellations are the latest twist in a series of controversies surrounding the Belfast group. Last month, they were banned from entering Hungary after Viktor Orbán’s government branded them a “national security threat,” and earlier this summer, Avon and Somerset Police dropped a separate investigation into comments made during their Glastonbury set.
