GUNS N’ ROSES TO JOIN METALLICA AS HEADLINERS OF DOWNLOAD 2006
Phenomenal rock giants Guns N’ Roses, one of the greatest bands of all time, have been confirmed as the headliner for Download 2006 alongside Metallica.
Other fantastic additions to the bill include of Lacuna Coil, InMe, Within Temptation and Hatebreed!
Gun N' Roses.....
Guns N’ Roses’ performances in the UK over the past decade have been an extreme rarity and Download 2006 can confirm they will be exclusively providing the only UK shows by Guns N’ Roses and Metallica, in 2006. With this confirmation and the forthcoming release of Guns N’ Roses’ long-awaited new album, this certainly promises to be a great year for GN’R and their devoted fans.
This spectacular coup brings together two of the most exciting rock acts in the world. Both bands will be gearing up to show the crowds at Donington Park on June 9, 10 and 11 just why the Download festival has become one of the most important music events on the UK calendar. Guns N’ Roses are confirmed to play Sunday 11 June and Metallica are confirmed to play Saturday 10 June.
Needing no introduction, Guns N’ Roses will be celebrating a homecoming of sorts with their headline slot at Download this year. It has been an unbearably long eighteen years since their legendary appearance at Donington in 1988 with Iron Maiden, where they played in front of over 100,000 fans following the release of seminal album "Appetite for Destruction". This exclusive appearance at Download will undoubtedly be one of the most talked about performances of the entire UK festival season.
Guns N’ Roses’ vocalist Axl Rose said, "The UK and Europe have always been special for me. After our last great shows there, we are all very excited and looking forward to getting back over there and in front of such great audiences. Donington has always meant a lot to me personally, way before I ever played there. To be asked to headline is for me an honour and a privilege that none of us take for granted. We look forward to seeing all of you at Download!"
Festival director Stuart Galbraith is proud to say, "For Guns N' Roses to play at Download, 18 years after their last performance at Donington will be amazing. Adding this to Metallica’s confirmation is a dream. Originally we would have been happy to have one of these great bands to headline Download 06, but to be able to secure both is just awesome."
As well as the two confirmed headliners, the ever-expanding bill for Download 2006 includes Korn, The Prodigy, Deftones, Clutch, Trivium and Bullet For My Valentine over the three days of this incredible festival.
