There is one main theme running through 'The Creature from Beneath the Mainstream': independence. On opening track 'Black Thursday', Genesis Elijah sets out his mission statement; noting his grind sans major label investment, rallying against closeted racists and exuding the self-made nature of his musical achievements.
'Scary Shit' provides real time analysis about the choke-hold of austerity, while speaking openly about the erosion of stable employment and landing swift blows at the current Prime Minister. Lastly, 'All Jokes Aside' speaks to the importance of cultivating knowledge. Here, the rapper passes on nuggets of wisdom to his fan base, letting them know they can follow their own dreams rather than simply settle for what they are given.
