With a lot of our focus being on festivals across England in recent weeks, as well as Scottish festivals, it feels as if we’ve slightly neglected the Welsh festivals. With some of the most stunning countryside in the world, Welsh festivals are characteristically beautiful, paradisaic escapes from reality, boasting fantastic atmospheres and set in some of the most idyllic areas.

By using our unique Festival Finder we have collated some of our favourite festivals located in Wales for your consideration. You’ll soon find out that nobody does a festival quite as well as the Welsh.

Over the weekend of the 20th-23rd of June, Anglesey’s Gottwood and Builth Wells’ Sonic Rock Solstice music festivals get under way. Both differ immensely, but are equally as impressive.

Gottwood

Gottwood stems from a desire to break the big garish festival mold that seems to have permeated so many festivals in the UK. Hosting a resolutely underground dance music lineup, this is the perfect non corporate rave up in the woods that the dance music fraternity have been craving.

Sonic Rock Solstice Music Festival

Sonic Rock Solstice Music Festival is located in the heart of the Welsh countryside with stunning panoramic views. The festival boasts three days of the best in space rock, progressive rock and blues music played over two indoor stages. Sonic Rock Solstice is a tripped out, fun loving, and warmly welcoming festival that is an absolute essential for fans of the genre.

Wakestock

Later in the summer we have Abersoch’s essential wakeboarding and watersports festival Wakestock, held between the 12th-14th of July. Since the invention of wakeboarding spread across the atlantic, Wakestock has been there to promote the fledgling sport, whilst providing an extensive program of other watersports activities, soundtracked by an impressive lineup of leading pop and dance music artists.

Green Man Festival

Green Man Festival is another great little festival favourite that occurs between 15th and the 18th August. Brecon Beacons leading festival has always excelled at creating the mystical, psychedelic festival feel, and regularly features a free spirit mentality that is as intoxicating as it is contagious.

Festival Number 6

But perhaps our favourite of all the Welsh offerings is the magical Festival No. 6. Held in one of the most beautiful locations we’ve ever encountered, the town of Portmeirion turns into one of the most unique festivals on the calendar, as it combines a first rate music lineup with cutting edge arts and culture programs, held across the Neo Classical architecture of the town, and enchanted woodlands and sandy beaches complete with palm trees.
