Where does your name Kereni come from and does it have a meaning?

Kereni is actually my middle name, got it from my father African side.

So how did it all start for you with Techno? What gave you that initial push and who were some of your influences when you started DJing?

It all started when I was 16, I was living in Italy at the time. I remember listening to lost of old acid techno records with some of my mates. I was instantly hooked and I was thinking in my head: "...I wanna recreate this music!!!". So I managed to get hold of a copy of Fast Tracker and started getting my head around making beats, eventually later started doing small live set/djing around small crowds.

My biggest influences at the time were probably Chris Liberator, Jeff Mills & Carl Cox.

What's your current studio set-up and what piece of software/hardware could you not live without?

My studio setup is quite simple, Live is my main DAW, inside I run NI Maschine as a vst routing each group/channel through Live, then usually I got a a few midi tracks running Rob Papen Predator and NI Reaktor, that?s about it, don?t use any samples or pre made loops, that?s cheating (only joking!).

I also own a Electribe EMX-1 and a Mochika Atomosynth and from time to time I do integrate them on my productions.

The piece of software I couldn?t live with out is probably the Rob Papen Predator Vst: the possibilities are endless with that synth, love it!!!

You have a sizeable discography to your name. Do you have a favourite? We have a few!

My favourite track out of my bunch at the moment is "Fractured Perspective".

Any advice you can offer to up and coming Techno DJs or producers?

Be passionate about what you do, everything else eventually will fall into place.

Tell us about the projects you're currently working on and what can we expect from you in 2014?

In 2014 I?ll release my second solo ep for YMN and possibly one for Sub:Circles, also you?ll see me on several remixes (Forte Techno,TrivmvirateCircular Limited and Hell Beat Limited to name few). This year I wanna slow down though and try to focus on on my main labels such as Forte and YMN.

If you had a time machine what year would you go back to in the history of Techno?

That's an easy one, early 90's for sure.

Yogi Bear or Homer Simpson?
