National treasure Dr John Cooper Clarke is set to perform a string of dates in spring 2019. The punk era poet will appear at Canterbury Marlowe Theatre on Thursday 11th April 2019 and at De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill On Sea on Thursday 16th May 2019.

There are certain people who encapsulate the spirit of the city of Manchester; Alan Turing, Anthony H Wilson, Caroline Aherne, Shaun Ryder, Peter Hook, to name the most obvious. Undoubtedly up at the top of that list is John Cooper Clarke, Like the aforementioned Peter Hook, Clarke would himself probably identify more as a Salfordian than a Mancunian, but as the cities live on top of each other these days, that's probably splitting hairs.

John Cooper Clarke's observations, acerbic wit and proletarian prose has been one of the defining voices of his home cities since the 1970s. He has outlived the punk scene he came to prominence in, he has outlived being a domestic partner with former Velvet Underground singer and notoriously heroin addicted singer Nico. He has outlived Joy Division, The Smiths, The Hacienda, Madchester, rave, Oasis and Britpop. His words remain as vital today, a marker for youth culture and the zeitgeist, as they ever were

His poems like 'Evidently Chickentown' and even some songs from his short lived music career such as “Post-War Glamour Girl” will live on way after the power of his back comb and hairspray have lost their strength and his wayward, wild hair fallen flat. For a chance to see this legend in the flesh, his words as bright, as cutting and as funny as ever, follow the links below.
