14 WEEKS TO GO…
TOOL TO JOIN GUNS N’ ROSES AND METALLICA AS HEADLINERS OF DOWNLOAD 2006
Also....SOULFLY, CRADLE OF FILTH, STONE SOUR, ARCH ENEMY, 36 CRAZYFISTS, SOILWORK, EIGHTEEN VISIONS, AIDEN, BLOODSIMPLE AND TO MY SURPRISE ADDED TO BILL
The compelling and awe-inspiring Tool have been confirmed to complete the full bill of headliners for Download 2006 alongside world giants Metallica and Guns N’ Roses.
Returning to the UK for the first time in support of their new album, the enigmatic Tool will close the first day of Download 2006 on Friday 9 June.
With this amazing triple header now in place, the numerous slots that will add up to around 100 bands across the weekend, continue to fill up with the addition of Soulfly, Cradle Of Filth, Stone Sour, Arch Enemy, 36 Crazyfists, Soilwork, Eighteen Visions, Aiden, bloodsimple and To My Surprise.
With their first UK show for 2006, Tool will be looking forward to bringing their unique brand of intense sound-scapes to the stage at Download. As their last UK appearances were four years ago (and included a very special performance on this very site), James Maynard Keenan and the band will be revved up to put on a highly frenetic and mind blowing set. Premiering new material and playing crowd favourites, Tool will prove why they have such an awesome reputation.
Tool’s bassist Justin Chancellor explains, "It's a huge honor for us to be asked to close Friday night at the horny mother of English rock festivals. I always imagined playing Donington as a kid, so I won't be taking this opportunity lightly. We'll have been touring our new record for about 6 weeks by then, so we should be well in the groove. This is the kind of experience we've been patiently working towards -- can't wait, see all you bastards there!"
Bringing a touch of the Brazilian spirit to Download will be metal mavericks Soulfly, returning to the site after their 2004 appearance. Fronted by innovative metal luminary Max Cavalera, the band will be delivering a caustic tsunami of sound, taking in aggressive metal with Middle Eastern beats and industrial rhythms.
Cradle Of Filth are without doubt one of the most dramatic bands ever to set foot in Donington Park. Shocking audiences with their demonic imagery and over-the-top showmanship, Dani Filth and cohorts will be making their third appearance at Download and is likely to be their darkest and most outrageous performance to date.
Three years after their last Download appearance, Iowa’s other metal export Stone Sour will be charging headlong into the weekend with an adrenaline-filled performance. The alter-ego of Slipknot, Corey Taylor’s inimitable frontmanship coupled with the band’s melodic hard-rock and killer melodies are sure to get the crowd going on the day.
Having been tour buddies over the years with Iron Maiden, Slayer and Cradle of Filth, Arch Enemy are looking forward to coming back to Download after a fantastic appearance in 2004. Distinctive front-woman Angela Gossow will be adding a touch of glamour through her unique growls to compliment their successful brand of extreme metal.
So-called ‘screamo’ outfit 36 Crazyfists return to Download having last played in 2004, to treat the throngs of rock fans to their hugely acclaimed album ‘A Snow Capped Romance’. Having found their feet touring with the likes of Chimaira and label mates Killswitch Engage, the band have truly come into their own and will be looking forward to continuing their love affair with the fans this summer.
Coming over from Sweden, Soilwork are to showcase their melodic death-metal including tracks from the superb ‘Natural Born Chaos’ album. Working with members of Strapping Young Lad, as well as playing alongside Children of Bodom and Hypocrisy has seen their profile considerably raised, and will be aiming to exert an unforgettable ear bleeding set.
According to their biography, ‘obsession, desire, depression’ are the hands that feed Californians Eighteen Visions, not least for the fact that their current album is called ‘Obsession’. Arriving at Download for their first time, the hook-laden hardcore five piece will be making their indelible mark with their multi-layered guitars and their ferocious performance.
New goth-rock superstars Aiden will undoubtedly be able to count Download 2006 as a milestone performance when they bring their vampire-core to Donington Park. Another Victory Records success story, they have amassed a hefty legion of devoted fans extremely quickly, and their fiery passion will unquestionably garner them many more this June.
Rising from the ashes of Vision of Disorder, bloodsimple will be debuting their blend of dynamic hardcore with more subtle soundscapes at Download this year. Becoming the first release on Mudvayne frontman Chad Gray’s imprint label, the band will be striving to take the masses at Donington Park on their musical journey beyond the weekend.
Recently releasing their debut album through Roadrunner, To My Surprise will be showcasing their diverse talents on the stage at Donington Park, with styles ranging from light pop-rock and fierce guitar licks. The biggest surprise of all will be the appearance of Shawn Crahan, is better known as Clown from Slipknot!
