Download Festival and Iron Maiden have teamed up for a live and exclusive streaming of Iron Maiden’s fourth Donington Park headline appearance on Sunday 10 June. Available FREE at www.downloadfestival.co.uk and with direct links to www.ironmaiden.com their performance will be shown in full, and will attract a global audience to the festival. As the first Iron Maiden live Worldwide performance broadcast from a European show, this innovative move also is the first time Live Nation have streamed from Download, and we expect other acts to follow this shortly.
Iron Maiden’s manager Rob Smallwood… "As we are only playing a few shows this summer this is a great way for our fans in territories we are not playing to have a means of seeing this show featuring songs from both "The Number of the Beast" and "A Matter of Life and Death", along with many others. We know it’s not anything like as good as being there but we feel our fans will appreciate our doing this for them. Maiden have always had strong ties with Donington so it is very appropriate to do it from there"
Festival director Stuart Galbraith said: "Iron Maiden streaming their set live on the Download Festival website gives more proof that Download is without doubt the most interactive festival in the UK. It will be great for those who aren’t able to make the festival for whatever reason to see Maiden’s set completely free of charge."
Bruce Dickinson this year will be presenting his BBC 6Music Radio show from backstage on Saturday 9 June between 9pm and midnight. This show is going to be repeated on Download Radio, (powered by BBC 6Music), later on the Saturday evening and on Sunday.
After its massive success in 2006, Download Radio returns, powered by 6Music. Chris Barnard and Vickie Scullard, competition winners from the Bruce Dickinson Rock Show, will be presenting their own shows alongside 6music’s very own Bruce Dickinson, Liz Kershaw, and Philippa TJ with more to be confirmed. With 24/7 coverage, Download Radio will be transmitting on 87.7FM, and will hit the airwaves at midday on Wednesday 6 June to Monday 11 June. Text 'ROCK' to 64046 to request any rock anthem you like, or even send pictures that will go up on the 6music website. www.bbc.co.uk/6music
Download Festival organisers are all set to ensure that this year’s event runs as smoothly as possible – and more importantly, keeps everyone coming to the festival as safe as possible on the weekend of 8, 9, 10 June.
From Campsite Hubs which will oversee all campsite activity and be manned by managers there to assist with any queries on the facilities on hand, to the uniquely designed posters on display at Donington Park (designed by Rianne Rowlands, one of the entrants from last year’s ‘Unleash the Beast’ competition) giving information on everything from tent security to crowd safety. This year’s festival is doing everything it can to keep its loyal fans safe and sound! For more information please visit www.downloadfestival.co.uk.
Another concern to festival organisers is the weather, this year, courtesy of Red Bull, three teepee’s will be erected on site as a free shade area, there is also more water stations. As well as the general refreshment venders, Download Festival have ensured that water will be more readily available throughout the weekend.
For the first time this year, a ‘Mister’ is going to be at the festival. Created by students from the Theatre Performance and Event Design course at Birmingham UCE, it will omit a very fine spray of water, and hot festival goers will be able to stroll through the sculpture, or just relax in the area and let the water mist revitalise and refresh.
Every single person gearing up to descend on Donington this year is being asked to look out for each other across the weekend. Leicestershire Police have launched a new text messaging and email service aimed at gathering crime prevention information – this is to encourage festival- goers to look out for themselves by reporting any trouble themselves in the spirit of staying safe! PC Kevin Walker explains;
"Download has [always] been a very peaceful festival with a great atmosphere…we want to make sure this year is a great event for everybody...it made sense to set up an email and text service to encourage fans to let us know [anonymously] if they hear of anything that may be useful to us."
Anyone with information can either text POLICE to 86688 or they can email their message through to email@example.com
In other news, Download now has its full line up confirmed for the three days, and includes the new additions of gothic metallers Paradise Lost, heavy rockers Neurosonic garage rockers Fortune Drive, and hardcore punk rockers The Ghost Of A Thousand in addition to the 100+ bands already scheduled to play, including the three headliners of My Chemical Romance, Linkin Park and Iron Maiden.
For the first time Download Festival have teamed up with Radio 1 to offer a free podcast, ‘The Download’ will be presented by the Radio 1 Rock Show’s very own Daniel P Carter and is the first of series of podcasts scheduled for production over the coming years. Guests for the first "DOWNLOAD" include Iron Maiden’s Bruce Dickinson, fellow headliners Linkin Park, two of the hottest new bands of the moment Gallows and Enter Shikari, metal legends Machine Head and the awesome Howard from Killswitch Engage.
