They say laughter is the best medicine (unless you’re diabetic, then it’s penicillin of course) – so for those looking for the perfect tonic to any ailment, Blackpool’s longest established comedy night is heading to a brand new home in the newly launched VIP Bar & Lounge titled ‘The Round Room’ at VIVA Blackpool.

Comedy Station founder, host and self-titled ‘Local Celebrity’ Ryan Gleeson is excited at the prospect of bringing comedy back to the centre of town “We’ve had a bit of a hiatus, just waiting in the wings for the right time and right location to re-launch and after being approached by the guys at VIVA and seeing their plans, it’s amazing to announce that we’re back in a new home right in the middle of town. It’s a brilliant venue, not just for the in house shows they do with Leye and the guys, but as brilliant location and space for promoter like me to work with and use. For the first show, we’ve got a real treat in store – the legendary Charlie Chuck will be joining us for the night along with supporting guests including Jimmy O.”

If Charlie’s face looks familiar, it may be because you saw him as Uncle Peter in BBC 2’s “The Smell of Reeves & Mortimer”.

His long-running Charlie Chuck stage act often involved the destruction of a drum kit and was peppered by references to fantasy characters including One Eyed Dog, Cakey Pig and a Donkey. The words “Donkey!” and “Woof! Bark! Donkey!” shouted out more-or-less at random had been part of his Charlie Chuck act and became his ‘Uncle Peter’ catchphrases on the Reeves & Mortimer TV shows. As a result of these TV appearances, Paul McCartney became a fan and invited Chuck to perform at one of his birthday parties.

The evening is a pre-launch event for the new room opening in time for the main season at the promenade venue. VIVA director Martin Heywood adds “We’re excited to bring regular live comedy back to the centre of town in a new room we’re really looking forward to opening. The Round Room is a great small performance and private events space, seating up to 140 and we’re so pleased that the Comedy Station will be resident on the first Thursday of each month as well as additional performances planned in season each Friday night for the visitor market.”

Tickets are now available for just £7 for the opening night on Thursday May 2nd for just £7, or £9.50 including your first drink with bar snacks available on the night.
