Never afraid to be both creative and comedic, Brummie comedian Joe Lycett is best known for adding that bit of colour into almost everything he does. And to elevate his creativity to the next level, Joe Lycett will be launching his first major solo exhibition.
Named 'EVERYTHING MUST GO', the exhibition will be opening at Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery on Wednesday 29th July and will be free of charge. Working on this project, Joe Lycett has been exploring themes of nostalgia, grief and loss, enforcing the collection's name. This will bring together dozens of never-before-seen pieces.
While this is Joe's first major solo art exhibition, this is not his first time in the arts, with his previous works exhibiting a painting of The Mona Lisa Scott-Lee featuring pop star Lisa Scott-Lee at BM&AG in late 2024 and early 2025. Joe's work has also previously appeared in the Royal Academy of Arts, National Portrait Gallery, Manchester Art Gallery, Ikon Gallery, MAC Birmingham, Bristol Arnolfini and Wolverhampton Art Gallery.
'EVERYTHING MUST GO', however, will be an exciting new mixed media exhibition that will include subjects such as deceased celebrities, discontinued chocolate bars, extinct animals and destroyed buildings.
Speaking about the launch of his exhibition, Lycett said, "I’m honoured and delighted to be exhibiting in the superb Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery, right in the centre of the best city in the world. I’m hoping to create a sort of neon graveyard which will overwhelm, delight and confuse gallery-goers. Expect colourful and silly depictions of loads of dead stuff."
