PRESS RELEASE

Britain?s search for the best volunteers announces regional winners

Central?s winners will now be in for a chance of winning £25,000 for their local community

Britain Has Spirit, a national search for the best local volunteers, has revealed the winners of the regional stage of the campaign, accumulating an incredible 230,000-plus votes during its first heats. After a fantastic run with nominees from a diverse range of cultures rooting for top position, Together Mutual Insurance is delighted to announce that Central?s winner of ?Regional Community Initiative of the Year? is Avenues Community Association Charity Dreams in Action and the winner of ?Regional Community Hero of the Year? is Trisha Shaw.

Central judge, Barbara White, Founder of When You Wish Upon a Star Charity comments: "I am so pleased to be part of the Britain Has Spirit campaign. Britain Has Spirit is an outstanding initiative that has shone a much-needed spotlight on what truly holds Britain?s communities and neighbourhoods together. It has highlighted the incredible benefit and impact community spirit can have on individual lives.

Avenues Community and Association Charity and Trisha Shaw are such worthy choices as this year?s Central winners. Their contribution towards the local community is genuinely remarkable and the support they have received speaks for itself. Although all of this year?s nominees have contributed so much to the central region, I am delighted that both winners will be moving forward to the national campaign as their contributions towards their local communities is simply remarkable and I wish them all the best of luck in the next stage of the initiative."

Both of these worthy champions have received deserving prizes for their selfless work. Trisha Shaw has been awarded a fantastic red letter day, and Avenues Community Association Charity has been awarded up to £1,000 of food and goods towards a street party, providing them with a chance to celebrate with the community that they so loyally support.
