Artist Focus: Brian Auger's Oblivion Express ft. Alex Ligertwood

Brian Auger has led a musical double life, as a session musician playing Hammond organ with some of rock and jazz?s most influential acts as well as leading bands like his own Oblivion Express and Trinity. It?s a rarity for an artist to have succeeded both as a session player and a bandleader, but Auger did just that, playing with Led Zepellin, John McLaughlin, Jimi Hendrix and Eric Burdon during the late ?60s and earlies ?70s, while he was leading his own bands. Brian Auger?s Oblivion Express was the most prolific and productive outfit, releasing their first LP in 1971 and going on to release another six in the decade.

The group was where many notible musicians cut their teeth before embarking on other projects, with members of The Average White Band beginning in the group, and vocalist Alex Ligertwood going on to join Santana. Auger is a master of acid jazz, dipping into progressive and jazz-rock forms with ease.
