Electronic music pioneer Brian Eno has joined the bill for IMS Ibiza 2020 (International Music Summit).

The musician, producer, artist and academic will discuss his role as a climate activist and founding trustee of EarthPercent - an initiative which exists to ‘encourage artists and music companies to commit a small percentage of their revenue to the best organisations addressing the climate emergency’.

Eno will join legendary DJ and IMS co-founder Pete Tong via video link (in order to ‘avoid unnecessary air travel’) in opening the three-day summit (20-22 May), which aims to unite the most influential global figures in electronic music for ‘conversation, connection and celebration’.

Eno says: “There's a revolution going on, the biggest and broadest social movement in human history. It grows out of two realisations: that the planet - and with it human civilisation - is in danger of collapse from a rapidly changing climate, and that it's us - us people - who have to do something about it.

“The music industry has always been a leader in movements for social change, and we can be proud of that. But if ever our efforts were needed, now is the time. This is The Big One and I am delighted to have this opportunity with IMS to speak with the global electronic music community at such a critical moment.”

A founding member of Roxy Music, Eno later embarked on a hugely successful solo career and has worked with some of the most important acts and artists of our time, including David Bowie, Talking Heads, U2, Coldplay and Grace Jones.

Eno is also credited with coining the term ‘ambient music’, following the release of his sixth studio album, Ambient 1: Music for Airports, on Polydor in 1978.

Now in its thirteenth year, IMS Ibiza recently announced a relocation to Destino Pacha Resort on the White Isle’s south-eastern coast (find out more here)

In partnership with Skiddle, IMS will once again culminate with a huge open-air party at Dalt Vila - Ibiza's 2,500-year-old fortified old town and a UNESCO World Heritage site - previously headlined by the likes of Peggy Gou, Adam Beyer and Charlotte De Witte.
