Ashley Slater & Freakpower

Freakpower is an acid jazz creation, featuring Ashley Slater on vocals backed by proper instruments, co-founded with Norman Cook. Whilst, at first, not completely accepted by the acid jazz connoisseur's, they reached the top in 1995 after their record, "Turn On, Tune In, Cop Out" was used in a Levi Jeans advert.
Norman and Ashley's music is a blend of acid jazz, with a bit of funk and soul, finished off with a dash of trip-hop.
The band had another famous surge, with their second album "More of Everything for Everybody" being featured in the critically-acclaimed film Code 46.
The band split when Norman decided to pursue his side-project of Fatboy Slim, and Ashley also made himself a bit of a solo-career, releasing Ashley Slater's Big Lounge in 2002.
After successful 2008 festival and Jazz Cafe appearances, Ashley brings Freakpower back to London for a special Fank Funk It's Friday event!

A band that started out by rapping over sampled beats and 80's ladies tracks has now developed into an tight hip-hop act of some stature. Joining Mac, Blame, Lax and The Roostaar, they now boast Dave on Keys and Titch Walker on trumpet. In 2003 they released a 12" single on their own white label, called The Way I'm Feelin' which was co-produced by Covert. It received some excellent reviews fom club DJs and student radio. They have now moved on to dumping the click track and providing a powerful live performance, that has been getting necks nodding at every gig....This act is definitely one to look out for and nudge your nan about!!!
"Fresh hip-hop, with live horn licks. One tight querky rapper, big on hooks and every tunes a neck nodder, all original stuff." quote from Band Me Up
