Nottingham's big bass extravaganza Detonate Festival comes to Colwick Country Park between Friday 9th - Saturday 10th June for another celebration of some of the finest contemporary electronic acts from across the world.
Heading to Nottingham are purveyors of drum and bass, grime, garage and all that's in between, making the festival a melting pot of top class acts, with a Detonate 2017 line up that boasts some massive names. With so many to choose from, we've taken the plunge to bring you the five most explosive acts coming to this year's festival.
Fresh from picking up a BAFTA for Scripted Comedy in May, the Kurupt crew are on a serious ascent right now. As well as providing a seriously funny TV show, the crew starring in People Just Do Nothing are a fierce outfit in their own right. With a barrage of lyrical blows to the jaw in their locker, DJ Beats, MC Grindah and the gang have the party starting credentials to much their unabashed love for garage.
The Mancunian MC has well and truly mixed it with the big boys of grime over the last few years. His debut Fire In The Booth session with Charlie Sloth has in excess of ten million views on YouTube, whilst its follow up sits at a cool five million. Freestyles aside, Bugzy's studio releases have perfectly demonstrated his rapid fire flow and lyrical prowess and have helped him don at huge shows around the UK. A recent Instagram post with UK rap icon Giggs and a fiery hook up with DJ Luck and MC Neat also suggests that now he has conquered Manchester, Bugzy has the world in his sights.
Electronic duo, Adam Kaye and George Townsend, collectively known as Bondax are also on the Detonate line up this year. Taking to the stage on the Saturday, the pair have been fairly quiet of late due to an intense touring schedule that has seen them play festivals and shows all over the world. They bring their pop-tinged brand of soulful electronica to the festival ahead of the imminent release of their much-anticipated new album.
Former Chibuku resident SG Lewis has well and truly spread his wings over the past few years, having departed Liverpool to perform at some of the best-known festivals in the world, including Coachella. Label mates with the likes of Disclosure, he takes tips from some of the biggest names in the industry, counting Justin Timberlake and Pharrell amongst his fans, the latter of which described him as a 'white boy with soul' after hearing his track 'Warm'.
Newcastle's golden boy has had a staggering past year, conquering main stages across the globe with his straight-up, funk-laden tech house tunes all the while cementing his reputation with more killer productions. A real crowd favourite and a must-see at any festival, Detonate is the perfect opportunity to get to grips with his high-octane style for the first time, or just remember why he's one of the best in the game if you've seen him before.
