Banana Hill was created in 2010 by a bored Mancunian called Jack. After travelling around the world for half a year, the post-backbacker-blues soon manifested themselves into an idea. Named after an actual hill nearby where Jack lives, Banana Hill represents a convergence of global grooves and pulsating rhythms. Unfortunately though, there are no Banana trees in Manchester. Upon his arrival at Sheffield University, Jack met a loveable Geordie named Chris, who shared his love for big beats and flamboyant funk.
After a successful radio show, Banana Hill morphed into a club night, starting in September 2011, which showcased bands from the UK and US, and later, top electronic acts. As Banana Hill evolved, music from Africa as well as Latin America began to appear more frequently alongside the contemporary UK electronic styles showcased on the site. Life is a constant carnival on Banana Hill. This translated to their events, and they have brought some of the most unique line-ups you're likely to see in the UK today. Recently expanding to Manchester, with one-offs in Amsterdam & Kampala, Banana Hill continue to push the freshest new music from around the globe.
Here, we aim to create a network of musical styles from around the world. You can find anything from: Afrobeat, Hip-hop, Jazz, Funk-Carioca, Kuduro, Moombah, Soul, Kwaito, House, Global Bass, Techno, Garage, Latin Rare Groove, Soca, Calypso, Highlife, Hiplife ? anything that satiates our hungry, hungry ears.
Jack and Chris.
