Biography

Oceans are a five-piece alternative rock band based in Glasgow. Four members hail from

the vibrant, working class east end of Glasgow, and one from the dusty desert of Phoenix,

Arizona.

Influenced by varied range of acts; 30 Seconds To Mars, Explosions In The Sky, Thrice,

and U2, Oceans sound is a mix of powerful, soulful vocals with sing along choruses to

soaring, melodic lead guitar and rhythm with a punch. What Oceans offer in a live setting

is a cinematic sound that encourages hands to be in the air, and their ability to deliver the

goods live hasn't gone unnoticed.

The band started out in 2012 under the guise of Enemies of the State, a politically

influenced rock band, which saw them build a loyal fan base from all corners of the UK. A

debut album release in 2014 was met with extremely positive reviews from renowned

radio presenter and hero of unsigned acts, Jim Gellatly ("…Oozing class") and cult

blogger Rave Child ("…An epic sound of volcanic proportions"). This lead to radio

exposure on major stations XFM and Clyde 1 FM, a TV spot on STV's Riverside Show, a

support slot with Scottish rock legends, Big Country, and ending 2015 with a promotional

tour for the album.

Despite the success, the band felt that, with their name and song repertoire, they could be

pigeonholed as a political band even though, as the band developed, they moved further

away from politics as their primary influence. In the turn of the New Year in 2016, the

band made the decision to freshen things up with a new name and new sound and

thus, Oceans was born. They announced the change at their sell out New Year’s

Revolution show at legendary King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut.

Oceans’ new start and direction would still see them retain the same fiery rebelliousness

with a more poetic, philosophical, and positive message at the heart of their work. This is

something they hope to put across in their upcoming EP release in May that they are

currently recording at 45 Aside Recordings with acclaimed producer Paul McInally.
