Biography

As one of the leading up and coming DJ's in the UK, JAMZ SUPERNOVA has passion for her craft in abundance.

This passion is now paying dividends, with Jamz now being one of the most highly sought after DJ's on the radio and in the club field.

The 25 year old from South East London is of mixed heritage, with Jamaican, Irish and Cuban influences. She was surrounded by music from birth, with her parents love of the 90's New Jack Swing era leaving an indelible mark on her. Aged 10 Jamz decided to hit the decks at a local community event, and the DJ bug began there.

Fast forward 8 years and her interest stepped up a notch with her Uncle now giving her weekly DJ-ing lessons utilising his vast reggae collection. "I wanted to learn how to DJ as the intricacies have always fascinated me", Jamz says. "I'm also a massive party girl and now I get to help create the party and set the right mood"

Her skill of being able to select the right tracks - not just the most popular tracks but ones that can make a difference - was quickly discovered by the pioneering London radio station Reprezent, who offered her a show. The station is known for plucking raw talent and helping to develop and shape it.

BBC Radio 1Xtra provided the next platform for Jamz, when she was asked to be part of their development program, ‘Xtra Talent’, and it wasn’t long before the BBC took the unprecedented bold step of offering Jamz three regular shows on the network, alongside inviting her to deputise for the likes of Toddla T and Benji B on sister station BBC Radio 1, Europe's largest youth radio station.

As well as her DJ and radio work Jamz has steadily carved a reputation as having an outstanding ear for new tracks and nurturing talent, for which her own regular club night “Future Bounce” has become the go-to spot, having already featured the likes of Gravez, Sh?m and Proton. Jamz’ input into the ‘future RnB’ scene over the past 2 years has been instrumental in it’s growth and success in the UK, which is now going from strength to strength.

Her decision to champion her own unique blend of Trap, Bass, House & Alternative R&B to the UK has resulted in Jamz performing at a variety of prestigious venues and events across the country, including The V&A & Tate Museum to London's Sketch, XOYO, private members clubs Shoreditch House and The Hospital, as well as fashion events Oxjam, Lacoste Live, CAT’s Camilla Walala Collection Launch and H&M Pop Up store.

Her hard work hasn't gone unnoticed – with Sam Gellaitry, Dornik, Seinabo Sey, Lion Babe, Little Simz, Sasha Keable, Toddla T, DJ Semtex, Tala, and Rome Fortune all inviting Jamz to warm up for them on various shows.

Having made her Festival debut at Bestival in 2014, she has since played at Annie Mac's Lost & Found, The Great Escape, Radio 1’s Big Weekend, Lovebox and Glastonbury, making international ground in 2015 playing in Malta, Berlin & Finland. 2016 is no exception with Love Saves The Day, Strawberries & Creem and Glastonbury festivals already announced.

As one of the most exciting upcoming DJ's in the UK right now, JAMZ SUPERNOVA has had a trailblazing couple of years – from community radio to BBC Radio 1 to Glastonbury, her passion and dedication to her craft is unrivalled.

Hear Jamz on BBC Radio 1Xtra every Tuesday night from 10pm as she brings you the latest in “Future RnB”, and each Saturday and Sunday from 1pm.
