Biography

Dermo was the co-founding member of late 80’s/early 90’s Madchester/Baggy band Northside, signed to legendary Manchester label, Factory Records.

Originating from Blackley and Moston in North Manchester, Northside were regarded by many as the most underrated band of the Madchester era.

Following on from their legendary gig with The Happy Mondays at Manchester’s Free Trade Hall in November 1989, the band released their first single ‘Shall We Take A Trip’ breaking into the UK Top 50 and was later used as Granada’s Soccer Night theme tune during the 90s.

The band released the album ‘Chicken Rhythms’ to some critical acclaim in 1991, which subsequently reached the Top 20 in the UK album charts.

Northside’s second single ‘My Rising Star’ was famously filmed on top of Manchester’s Arndale Centre and featured a small cameo by a police helicopter.

The album also contained one of the bands biggest hits ‘Take 5’ which was a success both in the UK and the US. The band performed ‘Take 5’ on Top Of The Pops in June 1991, which was the first time that a single not in the Top 40 was played on the show.

Northside gained a strong cult following during the early 90s, which remains to this day…but the collapse of Factory Records meant that a second album was not meant to be, leaving us to ponder what might have been.

Dermo has continued to be active musically DJing across the country and releasing his first solo material in 2017 with the haunting single “Vultures”

Dermo will be performing a collection of Northside classics and solo tracks with electric guitarist Steven Ness.

The stripped back and personal versions of the songs sound great and personal whilst continuing to capture the essence of Northside.

Dermo can’t wait to get out there and reconnect with fans old and new whilst playing these timeless classics again.
