Womad
Womad in Wiltshire - 25th-27th of July
The event brings together many forms of the arts from different
countries and cultures from over the globe. WOMAD has around 20
festivals worldwide and it allows audiences to gain an insight into
other cultures through the enjoyment of music.
The festival
returns to Charlton Park where the event was relocated in 2007.
Revellers will experience around 70 acts from around the world on both
indoor and outdoor stages. The event has a family-safe atmosphere with
a range of music including jazz, funk, reggae, ambient and hip hop.
On Thursday for 'early bird' ticket holders The Open Air Stage plays
host to the Adrian Sherwood and On U Sound System Showcase from 7-11pm
and guests will include Lee 'Scratch' Perry, and Little Axe aka Skip
McDonald.
On Friday grab your partners by the hand for a night of Irish Ceilidh
in the Siam Tent from 11pm 1am with guests Sharon Shannon, Damien
Dempsey, and Shane MacGowan.
Saturday night is Sufi Night at the Saddlespan Stage from 8pm -
1am which will showcase 3 musicians: Sheikh Taha (Egypt), Munajat
Yulchieva (Uzbekistan), and Asif Ali Khan (Pakistan).
WOMAD will also have a Drum 'n' Bass event on Saturday night billed as
'Beat Bristol' in a 2,000 capacity marquee including UK talent Roni
Size & Reprazent, DJ TC, plus Brazil's DJ Patife, DJ Andy, and MC
Stamina.
The WOMAD festival outdoor stage will present a ninety minute Gala
Finale on the Sunday from 9.30pm until 11pm presented by Bill Cobham
with Bassekou Kouyate as a main soloist and many guest artists.
