Lineup and details for Ghost Hunt at The Four Crosses on Friday 17th February 2012
GHOST HUNT AT THE FOUR CROSSES, CANNOCK
ONE OF OUR MOST POPULAR VENUES!
This venue closes indefinitely in March 2012; this may be your last opportunity to investigate it for a long time!
Built in 1636, this ancient coaching inn was constructed from reclaimed shipping timbers, meaning that some of the structure is potentially at least 1000 years old. In a building teeming with history, several astounding discoveries have been made in recent years, including that of an old coachman's uniform, preserved for around 150 years in the chimney.
Several tragic deaths have taken place in The Four Crosses over the years, one as recently as the 1980s, when a young boy ran out onto the main road and was killed instantly. There have reportedly been several suicides on the premises over the centuries, as well as the unfortunate death of a baby who fell off a table in the upper bar area in the 1800s.
These incidents may be part of why the building is so haunted, for there are many paranormal goings on in The Four Crosses. Staff report regular spiritual activity; glasses smashing behind the door, disembodied footsteps and an apparition of a young girl are just some of the more common occurrences in the building. Strangely, the Ladies' toilets appear to be the focus of a lot of activity, with tales of unseen children crying and glimpses of shadowy figures both often reported. One strange incident involving this area occurred in 2005, when the bar manager at the time entered the Ladies' first thing in the morning to find two flowers crossed, lying on the lid of the lavatory. Thinking it strange but assuming it was just someone from the night before, she left the room and was tidying up behind the bar. Upon turning round however, she was astonished to find that a heavy candlestick had moved from the fireplace and was now blocking the toilet door! Suffice to say, she was the only person present in the building at the time.
Other ghostly sightings include that of a Roundhead soldier in the gents toilets, and a gentleman in a long cloak standing in the car park on many a rainy evening, standing looking forlornly back at the pub. The apparition of a teenage girl with unkempt hair and tatty clothing was seen by a member of staff in the corridor by the kitchen. They looked at each other for a few seconds before the girl turned and walked through the wall. The member of staff in question was terrified and quit her job soon after.
Hidden doors were discovered on a fairly regular basis during the 20th Century, and there are still rumours of other uncovered rooms and passageways in which long gone residents perhaps still reside. As the Four Crosses closes its doors indefinitely on March 1st 2012, this might be your final opportunity to join us on an Eerie Evening here - don't miss out!
