Lineup and details for Tim Edey & Brendan Power on Saturday 18th February 2012
Tim Edey is one of the finest multi-instrumental players of his generation in the worldwide Celtic music scene. A virtuoso on both acoustic guitar and button accordion, Tim's incredible musical ear and total technical command allow him to play the most demanding instrumentals and improvise freely in any style you throw at him. His great gifts have been recognised by the top names in the Celtic music scene, and led to touring/recording with Sharon Shannon, Lunasa, Michael McGoldrick, Seamus Begley, Mary Black, Altan and Capercaillie - to name a few. Tim has released four solo albums and had his compositions recorded by Sharon Shannon and other respected Celtic artists.
UK based Kiwi harmonica player and composer Brendan Power is acknowledged by many as one of the most versatile and creative harp players around today. He has recorded with the likes of Kate Bush, Sting, Van Morrison, Paul Young, James Galway, John Williams, Paul Brady, Altan, and Artie McGlynn. A fluent improviser in jazz/blues/pop styles, Brendan is also an expert player of Irish traditional music, winning the All Ireland title in 1994. He has recorded 15 solo CDs and works for Suzuki Musical Instrument Corp as their International Harmonica Specialist. He sings and composes original songs, and often throws in some nifty beatboxing too.
The duo's powerful blend of passion and virtuosity is infectious. What sets them apart from most folk/Celtic acts is their free-wheeling approach to live performance. Tim and Brendan love to improvise, which means that every time they do a piece it sounds different & fresh. It's that sheer mad spontaneity which unfailingly captures audiences everywhere!
"It's Folk Jim, but not as we know it!!" Mike Harding, BBC Radio 2
"Tim Edey and Brendan Power were the buzz of Celtic Colours 2010!. Their sheer virtuosity and the genuine joy with which they deliver their music took audiences by surprise, and invariably resulted in standing ovations." Joella Foulds, Celtic Colours Festival Director, Cape Breton
