Lineup and details for The Comedy Club Welwyn Garden City on Friday 24th February 2012
Host Comedian Sally Anne Hayward
Absolutely Fabulous (BBC), Why the Long Faces (Ch4)
Sally-Anne Hayward combines the things you shouldn't like about your best friend's mum with the sensibilities of Jack the Ripper. She grew up to reject dizzy incompetence and feminine wiles for a disarming mix of ingratiating charm and unsettling pugnacity that gets more laughs than a hyenas dawn rally. An accomplished radio presenter with stage and TV acting credentials ('Absolutely Fabulous' BBC, 'Why the Long Faces' Square Donkey Productions, and various TV warm-up including 'Deal or No Deal' Channel 4), Sally-Anne's confident persona and quick wit have rapidly made her a much sought-after compere.
Opening Comedian Steve Day
Abnormally Funny People (Sky), The Sound Barrier (BBC), Natural Born Talent (Ch4)
Steve Day is a truly unique comedian - warm, witty and engaging whilst dealing with the dilemmas of being a deaf man in a hearing world. His stories of multiple children, wearing a suit and the problems caused by not knowing how words are pronounced will have audiences in raptures, and his uplifting tales of overcoming the obstacles in his path will leave crowds feeling inspired.
Headline Comedian John Newton
A Truly Globetrotting Comedian: Abu Dhabi, Alicante, Amsterdam, Bahrain, Barcelona, Burma, The Caribbean, The Channel Islands, Dubai, Estonia, Hamburg, Ireland, Kenya, Munich, Russia, Stockholm & More
With material by the spoonful ready to lead people on a series of whimsical journeys, he has even the hardest audiences spellbound by his penetrating narratives. Add to this some subtle and often sublimely tasteless comedy, and you have the basis for a strange, but oh so amusing night out. You might even find yourself contemplating such obscure subjects as the socio-economic stability of Thomas the Tank Engines island home, which as any parent will tell you, is very strange place indeed.
Acts subject to change.
