Whose film is it anyway? Contemporary Japanese Auteurs listings

This years Japan Foundation annual touring film programme looks at Narrative creativity by contemporary Japanese directors and how they express their voices trough cinema. Ranging from the emerging to the established, this programme showcases directors who are not necessarily well represented in this country, but whose work demonstrates their keen creativity. Has the voice of originality been drowned out by the financial realities of an industry overly reliant on blockbusters and foreign imports, an industry that leaves little room for thought provoking, mid budget independant cinema? Or beneath the more aggressively commercial facade of the industry, does the spirit of personal film making endure?
