Lineup and details for Sounds From the Other City on Sunday 6th May 2012

Fancy tucking into a weekend of music, performance, food and art, curated by Manchesters finest promoters? New music festival, Sounds From the Other City returns on Sunday 6 May, 2012 for its 7th year with more than 60 new bands, live art, spoken-word performances and much more in Salfords Chapel Street.
The festival of all things new celebrates its eighth birthday in 2012 having played host to some serious talent over the years. Back in 2007, for example, The Ting Tings played in the cosy surrounds of Chapel Streets Rovers Return, while in 2009 chart-topping Marina and the Diamonds (of Hollywood and Im not A Robot fame) pulled off a similar trick in Sacred Trinity church. Last year saw sets from New York taste-makers, Creep, as well as rising electronic artists like D/R/U/G/S and Denis Jones.
Organiser Mark Carlin has been involved since day one. He says that people often comment on seeing stuff that they'd never normally see - in terms of both bands, and venues - and together, the whole thing makes for a really different, exciting, and fun experience.
The concept behind the festival is to invite local promoters to curate their own stages. As a result, the event is not one persons vision, instead you get a flavour of what the city has to offer with less of the egos and more of the talent. Thats truer than ever this year, with new faces such as performance art collective Panoply, a stage programmed by critically acclaimed music mag, Drowned in Sound and purveyors of the newest in new music Faktion to take in. Warehouse Project favourites, Now Wave (past bookings include The XX, Wild Beasts, Ghost Poet) are curating a female focused stage, while Bad Uncle and Hear Here will be asking bands to soundtrack films as they did to acclaim at last years event.
Fans can buy one of 100 early bird tickets at the Sounds From the Other City launch party tonight (Tuesday 24 January) at the Gaslamp. After the first 100 tickets are sold (any remaining tickets will be available only on skiddle.com), the price will revert to £18.
This is an exclusive opportunity to pick up an Earlybird ticket priced at just £14. This launch is free.
