Rotherham will be filled with the sights, sounds and smells of the continent this month as the Market Festival returns to the town centre for five days of shopping with a difference.

The Markets Festival, which features the traditional street market on Tuesday May 27, the Farmers Market on Wednesday May 28 and the Continental Market from Thursday 29 to Saturday May 31, will be bringing both mouth-watering foods and fine goods from across the world, as well as the best in local produce to its traditional

To celebrate the festival, there will be the opportunity to win a continental hamper, filled with the best foods from across Europe, plus a very special phone-in competition on Rother FM to win a 4-day continental break to France courtesy of Marriott Travel.

General Manager for Markets, Robin Lambert, said: “Thanks to the recent visit to Rotherham by Jamie Oliver, fresh food is the talk of the town. The Markets Festival is the perfect opportunity for anyone interested in following Jamie’s example of healthy eating to try new foods and sample delicacies from both the local area and across Europe.

“The Markets Festival, which will this year feature over 50 stalls, has gone from strength to strength over the past few years and is one of the highlights of what we have going on here in the town centre.

“We get so many compliments telling us that the festival is exactly what shoppers here in Rotherham want, so we’re very happy to be able to bring it back. There will be everything on offer from French soaps to continental cheeses, I recommend everyone visits to see the amazing things for sale.”

There will also be entertainment for the kids with a specially themed “treasure trail” where children will be able to look for clues whilst answering a series of questions based on the markets. The free trail sheet will be available from the Visitor Centre in All Saints’ Square.
