Lineup and details Lineup and details

After a quieter spell for live music in Reading, the autumn kicks off in impressive style with two top Scottish bands decending on South Street.

Frightened Rabbit’s second album ‘The Midnight Organ Fight’, released on Fat Cat Records – original home to Sigur Ros and Animal Collective, gained rave reviews from the likes of NME (8/10), Drowned in Sound (9/10), The Fly (4.5/5) and even The Sun (4/5)!  Unlike their label predecessors though, the band ‘have a high enough ratio of pop hooks’ that ‘could very well catapult Frightened Rabbit into the mainstream, and deservedly so’ (DiS).

Their emotionally bare but accessible sound has led to their song ‘Good Arms vs Bad Arms’ being used on the TV series ‘Grey’s Anatomy’.  Alongside their singles ‘The Twist’, ‘Head Rolls Off’, and ‘I Feel Better’, they have also successfully covered ‘Fake Empire’ by The National and, quite remarkably, ‘Set You Free’ by N-Trance (see youtube link below), notching up over half a million myspace plays along the way.

Main support on the night comes from the brilliantly named We Were Promised Jetpacks from Glasgow .  According to Scottish blog, The Pop Cop, “We Were Promised Jetpacks are a band of beautiful contradiction. Their songs are driven by urgent hyperactivity yet possess the most exquisite restraint. Coil-sprung drum beats and exuberant yelps get the kids bouncing, but the purists are usually left salivating over their insanely clever chord structures.”
