Lineup and details for Teeth of the Sea, Mugstar, Rapid Pig on Friday 2nd March 2012

Teeth of the Sea

Since their initial formation in 2006, the London-based Teeth of the Sea have metamorphosized into the most adventurous and intrepid psychedelic rock outfit in the UK

Taking on board influences like Ennio Morricone, Eno, Delia Derbyshire, Goblin, Butthole Surfers and Harmonia, Teeth of the Sea have arrived at an incendiary sound that effortlessly marries the aural enlightenment of a far-reaching avant-garde sensibility with the reckless abandon of trashy rock & roll immediacy.

The band released their debut album, Orphaned by the Ocean on theUKbased label Rocket Recordings in January 2009, and its widescreen, experimental sweep of noiserock power and mariachi-tinged melancholia garnered critical acclaim and plaudits from band heroes like Julian Cope and Sonic Boom. Touring with Oneida, Gnod and Thought Forms, and shows with The Heads, Wooden Ships and Factory Floor followed, before the Hypnoticon EP, which cemented their reputation with 24 minutes of searing psych-euphoria. Following this, Teeth Of The Sea locked themselves away for six months to create their colossal second album Your Mercury, a fresh and potent odyssey of dark, cinematic exploration which quickly eclipsed its predecessors, summoning an avalanche of fervent excitement and critical hosannas in its wake.

Circa 2011, and with tour dates with British Sea Power and festival appearances already booked, Teeth Of The Sea exist on a strange and beguiling astral plane, whereby the boundaries between the synth odysseys of the 70s, the guitar-noise-fuelled infernos of the 80s, horrorscore schlock, Reich-ian repetition, and a whole plethora of other cathode-ray and speaker-stack birthed epiphanies are blurred into one futuristic and fearsomely coherent whole. Teeth of the Sea are spinning into a whole new orbit.

Mugstar

Mugstar formed in Liverpool and immediately set about recording their first single Spotlight Over Memphis which drew attention from John Peel, who played the 7" a number of times. It was after the next 7" 'Flavin' Hotrod' that John Peel offered the band a Peel Session. A split 7" with Hunting Lodge followed. Although the first three 7"s are more noisy garage rock than the music they became known for, they laid the foundations for the sound they would later produce. A mini album on Kabukikore Records 'Dark Matter' come next which was closely followed by a session for BBC Radio One's Huw Stephens. January 2006 saw the release of "My Baby Skull Has Not Yet Flowered" hailed in some quarters as psych classic and featured in magazines as diverse as Mix Mag, The Wire, Kerrang and The Times.

The debut album 'Mugstar' was released at the end of 2006 on Sea Records on CD and on Critical MASS Records on a limited run of heavy weight vinyl in 2007. The album gained the band fans across the world especially inAmerica. Mugstar then started a productive relationship withIrelandbased Trensmat Records with run of limited 7" singles from 'Bethany Heart Star' to 'Today is the Wrong Shape'. One of these releases was a split 7" withSeattle's finest Mudhoney, with both bands doing covers of Hawkwind songs. During this time Red Panda and Mugstar featured on a one sided 10" single with half of the song made famous by Fairport Convention 'Tamlin' each.

Mugstar signed to Important Records, who released "...Sun, Broken..." in March 2010. Currently the band are working on a film and have also been commissioned to write a soundtrack for a movie. Their third album "Lime" was released in November 2010 to universal positive reviews.

Rapid Pigs

Formed in April 2000,Manchesterantagonists Rapid Pig have been terrorising, delighting and baffling listeners ever since. Their list of raw materials range from folk to metal, from prog to punk and from funk to honest-to-goodness R'n'R. These myriad infuences are not merely set uncomfortably one after another in a linear fashion, rather somehow stacked vertically. The resultant blend is characteristically tweaked with spiky rhythms, eliptical arrangements and often startling dynamic shifts. Results have been described variously as 'apocalyptic,' 'uncomfortable' and 'I-don't-know-what-it-is-but-I-like-it.' The only parameters set by themselves have been to be different yet accessible.

All starts at 8pm on Friday 2nd March 2012.
