Lineup and details
CRITICAL FLICKER welcome you to the first screening at our new venue, the Norwich Puppet Theatre. M. Hulot returns in Jacques Tati's classic comedy satire Playtime shot in widescreen and 70mm and taking over four years to complete. The film, often considered Tati's masterpiece is at once, both subtle and complex, epic and intimate, slapstick and avant-garde. Playtime was pioneering in it use of sound and space inventing a new cinematic style in its depiction of the city. Objects, people, and sounds vie for the viewer's attention and all exert equal fascination and comedic power in Tati's circus of modern life.
