Wilkinson, the value home and garden retailer, is set to launch its brand new store, situated in The Galleries Shopping Centre, on Thursday 24th May, with a little help from the Deputy Mayor and Mayoress of Sunderland, Councillors Robert Heron and Juliana Heron.
The Deputy Mayor and Mayoress will mark the start of a day of celebrations by cutting the ceremonial ribbon at 9am, alongside representatives from the Sunderland Royal Navy Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), Wilkinsons head of retail, Robin Lassiter and store manager, Wendy Gray.
The first lucky 50 shoppers through the tills will each receive a free summer beauty pack, including a Wilko own range body butter and hair mist, while customers will also be invited to take part in a lucky dip to win some fantastic prizes from the store.
Local entertainer, Tony Junior, will be in attendance to amaze local people with magic tricks from 11am until 12:30pm and a candyfloss vendor will also be situated outside the store to hand out free samples as a treat for customers from 11am until 2pm.
To raise money for the stores charity of the year, the Great North Air Ambulance, which provides vital accident and emergency services across the region, there will be a charity raffle where shoppers will be in with a chance of winning a jam-packed hamper full of products from Wilkinsons, including Jubilee themed partyware, kitchen products and homewares.
Wendy said: Opening day is set to be packed with fun and entertainment. The team has been dedicated to making everything perfect for the store launch and we are looking forward to welcoming our new customers through the doors.
With our great value, high quality product ranges and our attention to providing outstanding customer service, we feel that we have a lot to offer shoppers in the area and we cant wait to become part of the local community in Washington.
The celebrations will continue on Saturday 26th May, when Sunderland FC mascot, Deliah the Cat, will attend the store to greet young shoppers. Local entertainer, Louby Balloony, will also be in store to perform balloon modelling tricks and free chocolate chip muffins will be handed out to early bird customers.
A complimentary face painter will be situated outside the store on Wessington Square between 10am and 4pm, to transform shoppers into a variety of colourful characters, while a craft table will also be set up on the square, to allow children to create their own works of art. The first 100 children to visit the stall will receive a free Wilko Colour Time Magic Painting Book.
