is one of the most influential figures in dance music, with a 17 year career that has seen him work with everyone from Depeche Mode to Jamie Cullum. His success is evident in the numerous million-selling hit albums and singles he has been a part of and his stunning DJ skills. When he turned 18, Rick Smith invited him to become the third member of techno band Underworld. 1993's dubnobasswithmyheadman was their commercial breakthrough onto the then burgeoning British electronica scene. While working on their second album, 1996's Second Toughest in the Infants, they released the single "Born Slippy", which was an instant hit following its inclusion on the soundtrack to the movie, Trainspotting. During his time with Underworld, the band released three albums and sold over a million albums world wide. Emerson also emerged as a much sought-after remix talent, with remixes for such diverse acts as The Chemical Brothers, and Björk. Darren parted ways with Underworld in 2000 and then concentrated more on his solo career as a DJ and remixer, and also a label owner. He continued to release tracks by himself and new artists on the Underwater records label and eventually gained its own night at super club Pacha, Ibiza alongside fellow DJ Erick Morillo. During its second summer at Pacha, his Underwater Records night won 'House Event' of the summer at the DJ Magazine awards. The first collaboration saw Emerson and DJ cohort Sasha produce the Ibiza classic Scorchio'. Two Global Underground compilations soon followed; Uruguay' and Singapore'. In 2003 Underwater was voted label of the year by DJ Mag. Darren released his third Global Underground compilation 'Bogota' in 2009 and 2010 he launched a new label, DETONE, on which he has so far released the club tracks Gracelands and Decisions; meanwhile he continues his relentless globe trotting DJ schedule.
Since first bursting onto the scene with the now classic album Wide Angle in 1999, the Swansea, Wales-based Hybrid have been known as one of the most forward thinking and technically skilled acts in electronic dance music. Blurring the line between in-studio production and live presentation, Hybrid are one of the few remaining dance acts to perform live with a classic band setup. Though, much has changed on the road to Hybrid's fourth artist album Disappear Here. Most notable is the addition of Hybrid's third member - singer/ songwriter Charlotte James - to go along with founders Chris Healings and Mike Truman.
Charlotte's impact is marked as Disappear Here is truly an album of real songs and not merely dance beats with vocals on top. It offers a lot more than anything Hybrid has ever previously written and pushes boundaries in every way.
With Disappear Here, Hybrid have managed to create an epic and unique sound which has progressed dramatically from its original dance inception but still retains much of what makes electronic music so exciting. The album features guest vocals from Tim Hutton, drums from Alex Madge and the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra. In the latter part of 2010, a Widescreen Edition of Disappear Here was released, featuring special unreleased remixes and new orchestral ambient versions of the album tracks. Hybrid continue to play gigs across the globe, whether as the stunning Hybrid Live shows complete with orchestral accompaniment or banging DJ sets under the Hybrid Soundsystem moniker.
