Lineup and details for Bugged Out! Crookers and Plastician on Friday 5th March 2010
Bugged Out!
Crookers and Plastician
That Friday feeling is representing with some largeness as Sankeys fess up a kaleidoscopic vision of twenty first century electronica. Always bringing a musical oeuvre, the Mancunia club thrives on offering the sort of shindigs where the future musings of electronic music's sonic template are explored, never relenting from the hedonistic desire at the dance floor's heartbeat. It's done here with the presence of a couple of wildly different yet equally revered exponents of dance dutty, with Italian crunk warriors Crookers squaring up to dubstep doyen Plastician.
Crookers, well there's only one word to truly encapsulate what they stand for, and that is hype. The Milanese duo retain one of those rare unidentifiable sounds, clawing in influences and textures from disparate genres as house, hip-hop, electro and techno, with a leaning towards grittier underground pastiches like B-More and Baille funk. It's this ambiguity allayed to an irreverent sense of fun that makes them such an intoxicating presence, bringing a rowdy and constantly changing musical palette to the forefront that ensures their sound is uncompromising, funky, hedonistic and beguiling all at the same time. Perfect for the weekend start at Sankeys.
The real breakthrough moment for the Crookers template came in the form of their remix of Kid Cudi's smash 'Day N Night', rocketing the track to number two in the singles chart and spotlighting their gutter vibe effortlessly. Since then they've recorded for Fatboy Slim's Southern Fried Records, contributed to computer games (notably Djing electronically for the Grand Theft Auto franchise) and accrued dancefloor ubiquity with omnipresence at the world's finest clubs and festivals. Get ready for some ruckus.
On to sonic warrior Plastician. One of the originals of the dubstep movement, he's been repping the music since its early noughties existence, a Croydon native that has helped take the sound across the globe. His contribution to the scene is immeasurable, with his work on the Rephlex records compilations, constant radio pressure (Radio 1 now call upon him for some dub authenticity) and intrinsic connection in aligning both dubstep and grime music scenes. Sickness and then some, this is the stamp of a musical pioneer in his prime.
