Lineup and details for DD MM YYYY, Mice, With That Knife (Wotgodforgot) on Monday 1st March 2010

dd/mm/yyyy (pronounced ‘day month year’) is a band from Toronto, Canada. The band consists of Mike Xton- Deep Mountain, Tomas “a la mode” Das Botox, Rat King- Halftone Fingerprints, Jordan Hell- Analog Dreamer, Moshe Moshe- Vinyl Teeth, and Eric Warner-Life /motivation/facilitation.

Their music, performed as a band, incorporates influences from punk, noise rock, math rock, and post-hardcore, as well as a great deal of experimentalism. However, they have also ventured into ambient electronica. Both styles are showcased on their 2005 release; the first half, entitled The Blue Screen of Death, is rooted in the former sound, while the second half, The Journey to and Escape From the Fortress of the Fluffy Love Cloud, is of the latter sound. The album was re-released in 2007 on We Are Busy Bodies. In July 2007 dd/mm/yyyy released their second full-length album Are They Masks?. Their next release is Black Square. A full length CD/LP/Cassette released by We Are Busy Bodies (CAN), IMPOSE Records (US) and Deleted Art (EU). Past tours have paired them with the likes of Crystal Castles, Don Caballero, Japanther and Video Hippos.

Mice: Revolving around a central core of Julianne Regan, Tim McTighe, former Levitation luminary Christian Hayes (aka Bic) and original All About Eve drummer Mark Price, Mice released their first single Matt’s Prozac in November 1995. Countrywide touring followed as did an album Because I Can recorded for indie label Permanent Records. Many collaborators took part in this band, including both Marty Willson-Piper and Andy Cousin which lead to people questioning why this band wasn’t launched as another incarnation of All About Eve. Julianne said that this was deliberate in that she had wanted the new band to be just that. Musically it did indeed sound somewhat harsher than All About Eve and Julianne would later say of it “It showed that I could be pre-raphaelitic but I still had to get on the bus and go to Tesco’s.”

With Because I Can making the Indie Top Ten, the future looked quite rosy for Mice, but for the fact that Permanent Records went out of business in 1997 (owing Julianne and others a lot of money) and leaving the album and the three singles Matt’s Prozac, The Milkman and Dear Sir hanging in the shops without promotion or replacement.

There were brief rumours of something being put together with Marty Willson-Piper but - after an apparent fall out between them - this also came to nothing, and Julianne dropped into obscurity yet again, surfacing briefly in 1998 to record lead vocals for two songs on This Burning Effigy’s album Descent.

With That Knife: One of the impresssive bands in Manchester right now.
