JACKIE0 MOTHERFUCKER

Jackie-O Motherfucker (or JOMF) is an American experimental rock group that formed in Portland, Oregon in 1994.

Jackie-O Motherfucker began as a duo consisting of multi-instrumentalist Tom Greenwood and saxophonist Nester Bucket. The group now has more than twenty rotating members drawn from the U.S. experimental scene. As of 2006, the core of the group is founding member Greenwood.

JOMF's music draws from a variety of subgenres including drone, free jazz, space-rock and is heavily improvisational in its nature. Because they are a collective, rather than a consistent band or group, the sound of their music can change from performance to performance. The group operates its own label of CD-R live recordings, the U-Sound Archive, which features concert recordings from JOMF as well as like-minded subterranean artists such as Double Leopards, Sunroof!, Decaer Pinga and Vibracathedral Orchestra.

The group's first three albums were limited-run vinyl-only releases on now-defunct Portland label Imp Records. Since then, the group has had recordings released by many different labels from around the world.

The group has been on several international tours, including several performances at All Tomorrow's Parties Festivals. Several albums released by the group are from live shows, which stand apart from their other releases due to the improvisational nature.

INCA ORE

Inca Ore (AKA Eva Saelens) is a member of Jackie O-Motherfucker and has collaborated with Yellow Swans (among others). She released a record made with Lemon Bear’s Orchestra (released on 5RC) in 2006. Her blog is at http://www.urbanhonking.com/incaore

Recently, she released split records (casette. 7" vinyl) with Grouper and Axolotl, respectively.

VALET

Valet is Portland, Oregon musician Honey Owens. Owens played a key role in the development of the electronic group Nudge and music collective Jackie-O Motherfucker, blessing both groups with her singularly haunting voice, instrumentation, and aesthetic approach.

Valet’s debut, ‘Blood Is Clean’ was originally released as a limited edition CDr in 2006 by Yarnlazer (the label Owens co-runs with White Rainbow’s Adam Forkner). It saw wider release on Kranky Records in the Spring of 2007.

According to Owens, the songs were formed "out of a natural and spontaneous process as separate incidents of recording over a 5 month period from January to May 2006 in single, live takes with additional tracking sparingly added." Her goal was "to make music that was not neccessarily of me, but rather to be a medium channeling sounds from an unknown place, opening up and spilling out onto the computer-tape." The cryptic, mesmerizing sound pallete was inspired by "lucid dreams and physical artifacts that appeared to me daily and that hinted at a sound-world of Haitian Voodoo drumming, various shamanic dreamtime musics, the Velvet Underground, and the ‘Fourth-World’ concepts of Jon Hassell".

GNOD

Gnod first came to life around the chaotic turn of the year 06/07. The vision achieved form, various heads from various groups put their varying heads together and Gnod was born. 2 tracks on the player are from Gnod’s first improvised ep Abstehen Der Ohren… recorded with one mic onto a knackered mini disc recorder found in a skip by SLT… its amazing what people throw away these days.
