Lineup and Details for Content Presents - Derrick Carter (BHQ, Classic Music Company - Chicago) on Fri 27th July 2012
Here at Content we've developed a reputation for showcasing the very best artists from Detroit, but for our July party we decided it was about time we shifted the focus to their neighbours to the West in Chicago, by bringing you the most recognizable and gifted of them all... Derrick Carter.
Carter began DJ'ing at the age of nine, spinning disco records at family reunions. 10 years later - in 1988 - Derrick, fellow DJ Mark Farina and close friend Chris Nazuka released the Mood EP as the group Symbols & Instruments on previous Content guest Kevin Saunderson's KMS label. It was a record that had a huge influence on the burgeoning ambient techno movement in England and established Derrick as an international figure on the underground dance-music scene.
After a multitude of releases and remixes under his own name, aliases and joint projects, in 1995 Derrick (alongside Luke Solomon) founded the unquestionably influential Classic Music Company a record label responsible for releases by such luminaries as DJ Sneak, Herbert, Blaze, Gemini, Iz & Diz, Rob Mello, Metro Area, Phil Asher, Tiefschwarz, Roy Davis Jnr, Isolee, LoSoul and Dino & Terry... to name but a few!
Despite his prowess in the studio and his A&R talents as a label boss, Derrick is primarily known as one of the most naturally talented DJs on the planet. As Dom Phillips the one time editor of Mixmag once said: Derrick Carter plays techno that seems to groove underwater, raw disco that whoops and hollers, dirty, quirky house tracks that dance like skeletons. Carter mixes records together for three or four minutes longer than most DJs can dream of, stretching the mix but not to the breaking point. Carter DJs. He knows how to party, and most importantly, why people party, why people go to clubs...
Because of this, we have no doubt that Derrick playing a rare, intense and intimate gig at Content will be one of the events of the year, so make sure you book your place while you can, as ever tickets are limited to 200...
