Why sell out and put no bar staff on?
Overall rating: 3

I echo what the previous reviewer said. The band were amazing and I also enjoyed the support but the wait at the bar for drinks was absolutely ridiculous, just like the bar prices. Nearly £15 for 3 pints and a small coke, you can shove the Ritz up your jacksy thank you very much.
Fantastic band and the singer's voice is sublime. Loved how the main man kept going from behind the equipment jumping on the drums for a bit then going back on the synths. Clearly a very talented chap.
Lets hope SBTRKT play at the Academy next time.

Good band, terrible venue
Overall rating: 2.5

30 minute queue to pick up tickets, 30 minutes and a lot of anger to get a beer from one of the 3 laid back studo's behind the bar. Useless.

Still one of the best nights in Manchester
Overall rating: 5

Although this event was a couple of months back, it was one of my favourite events lastyear.
In Manchester we dont get many great lineups such as this, and with it being a label takeover it just made it all that bit better.
From start to finish it was blinder, Rockwell started the ball rolling, and ended on Break was a great way to end the evening.
First time for me in the Ritz too, and though the venue was great, just the soundsystem needed a little more but still wasnt disappointed.
Hit&Run really show other nights the way to do it right.

halloween @ HMV Ritz
Overall rating: 4.5

Compared to usual monday's at HMV, this party was relatively standard. Not bad, just average. Adding to this was the "headliner" TEk-One dropping 3 or more skrillex tunes...wtf?right. No artist went over the top, no MC was off the hook; just a great monday night as usual at the ritz, but nothing more. Was nice to see so many lovely, friendly dressed up people though! Atmosphere & Prices = best in Manchester as usual! :D If you're ever feeling dull on Monday and only have a fiver, Ritz's Hit & Run is the place for you to go!

Phaleh & Spectrasoul Massive!
Overall rating: 4

I'll start with the bass. All top notch, first class audio all night long, but when Phaeleh came on then the vibrations were all over the plafe, everyone groovin and feeling it! Party was very well planned, all the Artists knew they were getting nothing but love from all! For those who've never been to the Ritz, you just missed a class night, but don't fret, its on every Monday! I didn't know what to make of Gentlemen's Dub Club, whether I liked them or not. But that's not important, what is of much higher importance is that they rocked & mashed the socks out of the Ritz!!! The whole dancefloor was pushing and moshing, insane stuff. I have no regrets of last night, could have been slightly cheaper though, but well, at least next Monday when Graffix, Kito & HxDB come down, it will be.
See you there!

Exciting nights ahead!
Overall rating: 4.5

What a change of venue from previous installments! This will allow Hit & Run to grow and hopefully the numbers will keep on coming. It made me laugh that as a 'Freshers' event only about 20 put their hands up when Chunky asked, so the regulars and Mancs reppin strong.

One user mentioned about sellin out the regulars with the music, but I think Hit & Run showcased its versatility last night and gave a taste of the season to come. With each week's Djs varying mainly through Dubstep and DnB genres with a splash of Hip Hop from time to time, newcomers will definitely go on to embrace the night and appreciate its family feel.

MUSIC - A showcase of genres for opening night. Jungle set great to hear. DnB vibes. Hard Dubstep. Hip Hop. Dancehall thrown in. I felt the venue could've done with a crankin up of the system and a 'tighter' sound; which should be sorted in the weeks to come.

VENUE - Fantastic. When Hit & Run was at FAC251 the complaints were of no real 'chill out' areas if the 2nd or 3rd floors weren't in commission. At the HMV Ritz the chill out areas abound and in style. The sound upstairs overlooking the HUGE floor does not suffer! Multiple bars ensure you won't be waiting forever to get served. Good bouncers.

PRICES - Superb offers for the Hit & Run night. The Mint Lounge offers were a little sp**** and still pricey. The Ritz offers = extensive and worthy of the word 'offers'. Just stay on the offers menu. Cranberry & Vodka... £1.50. Add to that a G&T ... "that'll be £5.70"... WTF!!!!

ATMOSPHERE - Banging. Everybody stayed right to the end and raved it up regardless of the genre. And when the upcoming BIG name DJs start rocking the place the atmosphere for those that know their bass music will indeed be amazing.

Obviously recommended...how could someone possibly not. If you want a night that caters to bass music with commitment, look no further. Are you used to nights out where you end up tolerating parts of the music but hanging round regardless? If you have to do that here if you're not keen on an hour's Dubstep set, then you've got one of Manchester's best venues to go chill upstairs with your mates whilst waiting for the next set.

Good for a first night
Overall rating: 5

It's a slight shame that the first night at a new club is usually the busiest one of the year. We actually undersold the club by 100 people to make sure it wasn't too bad but when 1400 people turn up at once is always going to be slightly chaotic. There will be improvements every week as well to make sure we can get it as good as possible; but anyone and everyone will continue to be welcome. HIT&RUN has never been elitist or exclusive - that sort of attitude is for snobby bars and clubs. And thats reflected in the price. Remember that everyone paid between £3 and £5. If you don't think that;s value for money I think you need your head checked. The music will vary from week to week depending on the DJ - that;s how it has always been. Finally, the bar staff were all new last night so they will get quicker and more efficient as time goes on.
If you've been loads of times before would be nice to give us at least a bit of the benefit of doubt ;) but thanks for any feedback we take it all on board!

Peace,

Been baare times last year and always had a sick time. But this one I thought it was a shambolic oversold mess with bait music. don't sacrifice true regulars of you're night and sell out to people who don't care about the music... if u do though its just a poor show for the manchester scene and a real shame. cheers

MUNGO'S SOUNDSYSTEM OH MY GAAAAHHHHHHHD
Overall rating: 4

James Blake played a pretty dark set which I found hard to dance to. Kromestar murked it and Sukh Knight came along to spin a few tracks which was a nice little surprise. Broke N English were wicked and got the crowd involved. But for me Synkro and Indigo stole the night with their jungle set. And big ups to Rich Reason for blasting the jungle sounds till the early hours - THE SOUNDSYSTEM WAS F**KING INCREDIBLE.

Outlook 2011 yeah!

New Order and The Smiths tribute
Overall rating: 3.5

I must admit the place stunk, and the sound guys let both bands down, how any times did
Barney have to ask for the keyboards to be turned up, and Morrissey had similar difficulties over his mic volume. Having said that, again good atmosphere and music. Went to see them last year and enjoyed it all the same, this time being sober helped me appreciate the songs that bit more. Gottah say, even though im more of a New Order fan, the Smiths definitely stole the show. Good crack all in all.

Smiths New Order tribute
Overall rating: 3

Have to agree with most comments. The Ritz smelt really bad, like sick, but atmosphere was very good. Arrived late so only saw last three New Order tunes. Never seen New Order live so can't compare but friend said they were just like the real thing. Thought Smyths were very good but let down by the sound guys. Difficult to hear Mozzer. Also it was really weird and off putting to have Barney join them on guitar.
Overall a really good night.

Review for the smiths/new order tribute night
Overall rating: 3.5

As already said new order, slightly dodgy sounding and pretty depressing for the most part, the smyths were excellent, loved the songs, the place was buzzing, the ritz itself absolutely stank and some really nice person kept passing very smelly wind which didn't really add to the ambience. The ritz definitely needs updating. All in all though had a fantastic night, the taxi driver on the way home actually had a smiths cd in which ended the night brilliantly

As has already been said, New Order has some tech difficulties.
The Smyths were pretty good. My other half who is the real Smiths fan thought they played some different tracks to what he expected.
But we both agreed there is another Smiths tribute band called Smithdom who are much much better :-)

Smiths new order tribute
Overall rating: 3.5

Reorder suffered from the sound mixers not knowing what they were doing. Some v depressing songs to start with but picked up as they went along. The last song Temptaion was brilliant! The Smyths - felt like and sounded like the real thing 20 odd yrs ago. Amazing & fab song list. The Ritz needs a lick of paint- looking a bit shabby & smelly but a great, intimate gig place- been going there years. The atmosphere was electric , everyone was up for a good time - singing along & dancing & true Mcr weather to meet us outside at the end- it was p??sing down ! A Top Manc nite !

Welcome to the Jungle!
Overall rating: 4.5

Illuminaughty

If goblins, lasers and spine-tinglingly loud bass don't pique your interests then frankly, you're an idiot, but more importantly you'll have missed out on the magnificent tri-annual ravers' delight that is Illuminaughty when it hit The Ritz on October 8th.

There's always a buzz about the place when this night comes to town, and their latest offering, Chapter XXIII; Welcome To The Jungle, did not disappoint.

Their unique blend of street theatrics and thumping psy-trance music combined to concoct a genuinely fascinating club night, and definitely one that will live long in the memory. The mixture of professional and amateur DJs playing many different genres meant that there was something for everyone, and later into the night, you could even sense the door staff bobbing to the deep techno beats. Or perhaps that was just all the Red Bull catching up with them.

The crew's philosophy when planning a party seems to be "if it ain't gonna be fun, then don't do it," and I've certainly got no arguments with that. Every single facet of the night seemed spontaneous yet well orchestrated at the same time, as if the rehe****d dance routines were just spur of the moment decisions that turned out to be capture the mood brilliantly.

The liberal outlook and borderline eccentric nature of the night as a whole may have been enough to put off some people, but it really was an event that required you to put all your prejudices on hold and enjoy it for what it was, a damn good rave.

I think the main attraction of the night itself is that there is simply nothing else like it on the mainstream club circuit. Sure, there are countless other electronic music nights around town on a Friday night, but none of them capture the essence of what a party should be about quite like this one.

If anything, Welcome To The Jungle had more to offer musically than other Illuminaughty nights, which could go some way to explaining its growing popularity and increasing crowds. For a club night that began its life as pandering to quite a niche psy-trance market, it has now graduated into an incredibly popular and ever-expanding brand, and its growth can only be a good thing.

The fact that it's so infrequent only makes it more enjoyable, as you feel that you have to make every single night count, and enjoy it to the max. I found myself drifting around the club making sure I got the most out of the experience, from having my face painted, to dancing right in the middle of the dancefloor, it made me realise how much of an all-round experience it is.

With regards to Illuminaughty, the old adage "Dance like nobody is watching," comes to mind, though perhaps the more appropriate sentiment would have been; rave like everyone is watching, because you simply wouldn't care what they thought.
